I may just be being silly, but i've just realised he's only grown 2 cm's since July. He 33 months and 89cms. according to google they should grow 6 cms in a year so unless he's going to suddenly jump 4 cms in 4 months.... i'm not exactly really tall and neither is dh (5.4 and about 5.9) so i'm not expecting ds to be a giant but shouldn't he be growing faster than this?

I wondered the same thing. DD is 3.1 and has only grown 1 cm since August although she does seem taller. I'm a real shortarse (5' 2) and DH isn't much better so not expecting a giant either but even so.

I know, he seemed taller so didn't really think about it. i had to measure him cause my mother wants to buy him some clothes and wanted to know his height. Thankfully his weight is in a healthy range. (started worrying about that then. Grin) But at what point are we supposed to worry?

I'm wondering this too. I've just dug out some of last year's summer clothes to wash and they still fit really well - I thought they might be getting a bit small. We're not tall either, but I am getting worried. It doesn't help that everyone comments on ds's sizde and he is atarting to pick up on it Sad When DO we start to worry??

thisisyesterday · 07/03/2011 21:03

i wouldn't worry. google doesn';t know everyth9ing Wink and any measurements you get will only be a rough guide, an average.

although, he may be about to have a growth spurt, in which case 4cm in 4 months isn't necessarily unlikely!

Firawla · 07/03/2011 21:21

mine has only grown a similar amount since then too, and i dont think your ds sounds particularly short for his age so wouldn't be too worried

cep · 08/03/2011 11:55

thanks everyone for responding. I won't get out the rack quite yet then. Grin

moonstorm how old is your ds?

He's 3 years 5 months. He's shorter than his peers, although I heven't measured him yet I will do after looking at his clothes. It seems harder for boys/ men to be short which is why I'm worried.

cep · 08/03/2011 17:57

I know. It's annoying because you're always made to feel silly by the professionals for worrying about all this stuff.

I know what you mean, Moonstorm. My DS is tiny for his age as well. He's 3yrs 8months but looks more 2 yrs 8 months. It really doesn't help when he fancies himself a big brother but other boys his age call him little. He gets a bit upset.

I'm barely 5' myself so not hoping for a giant but DH being 6'1, I'd hope will help DS1 to be at least middle of the range. I went to GP and she took 1 look at my height and thought there's the answer. I was told to measure him every month, if he hasn't grown any in 6 months, then to go back. But of course, he has so there's that.

Ah well, we all have to work with what we're given of course! He's a lively little chap and confident enough to sing solo in class, so I'm content. Smile

I too have a tiny little chap, and even though he's perfectly proportioned and from a pair of shorties I seem to worry about this a lot too.

just today I took him off to clarks as was sure his feet must have grown in the 6 months since I last bought a pair of shoes, but no, he's still 4.5... (and 2.5). Out of interest, were your ds feet anything like this small as can't find any evidence online - I wonder if I have a record breaker on my hands!

moonstorm · 16/03/2011 23:04

ds is 3 1/2 and size 6

Dysgu · 16/03/2011 23:24

I have a DD so maybe slightly different at it all seems to be boys here.

However, at the age of 3.5 years, she was wearing clothes for 18-24 months and was in size 5 shoes. I even put her baby sister's new trousers on her at Christmas and there is 2.3 years difference in age!

DD1 is now almost exactly 4 and a half years old and pretty average height amongst the other little people I see around her. She is on the cusp of moving into clothes for 4-5 years and has size 8.5 feet.

She really has done nothing but grow in the last 12 months! I used to call her our 'value-for-money' baby but she is now such a big girl.

And DD2 has always worn clothes at age appropriate times and has grown up being the big little sister!

Also, FWIW, as a teacher, I see a HUGE number of boys start Year 8 at somewhere getting near to chest/shoulder height to the girls of the same age - but they are almost all much taller than the girls by the time they move on to Year 9. (And the girls do not seem to have a problem with a lack of height in their boyfriends at that age!)
