Nappies not holding up at night!

DS is 21 months old and currently wearing pampers size 5 baby dry nappies at night. He's also been in size 5+ active fit at night. But about once or twice a week he wakes up around half five/six ish in the morning totally wet through. He's disorientated and not really awake, upset at being changed, but then too awake to get him back to sleep. (And also, I'd rather be asleep at this time!)

Are there any better nappies specifically for nighttime? Or a brand that might be more absorbent?

I've never found Pampers particularly absorbant, we prefer Huggies.

Going up a size (say, to a 6) tends to help with absorption or try a 'nighttime' nappy. We use these which might be small enough for you. We use the large on my almost 4 year old and I can only remember them leaking once.

We had the same problem. So changed to the large size (6) in Sainsbury's dry nappies and now they hold all the wee he produces!

Good luck.

Do Boots still do disposable booster pads?

I found pampers rubbish at night too, watching this with interest as I'm still experimenting to find a better nappy.

I had this problem with newborn DS, went up a size at night and the leaks stopped.

Oh forgot to say I don't rate pampers at all, I use tesco. Apparently LIDL are supposed to be good...

Having the same problem with 23 week old DS at the moment - he has recently started sleeping on his tummy (turns himself over not long after he's gone off to sleep) and now we are getting front leakage at approx 5am about 5 days out of 7!

We're having same problem with 3 year old DS. We have cut down the amount of milk we give him before bedtime, which seems to have helped, but will perhaps need to go up a size of nappy to a 6 (which is a shame as we've just bought two big packs of pampers 5+!)

Thanks for the suggestions - will try them and let you know how I get on.

Switched from pampers to huggies (and have used boots) as I don't care what their pr says new pampers leak

Frawli · 06/03/2011 19:33

I think pampers active fit is not as absorbent as baby dry. I wouldn't use active fit in the night.

We use Tesco nappies, and go for a pull up in the night. Not had any leaks.

Personally we didn't get on with huggies, gave my children nappy rash, I don't think they absorb quickly enough.

Try going a size up in the night too.

I had this problem with dd - she was waking up soaking wet every night. I posted on here in the "sleep" section and several people said to get tescos own brand purple nappies in a size too big. I tried them and we have had no leaks since!

may sound daft but make sure his willy is pointing down the way!

i had a nightmare first time round and only thought of this when someone else reminded me about boys!

LetsgoflyaBlatherskite · 07/03/2011 09:30

Yes, willy direction is very important :). If it's pointing up, it all squirts out of the top of the nppy before it can be absorbed

I used to use pampers, but fell out with them about six months ago when they got thinner. I like the boots ones, but inspired by MN I got the Lidl ones (it was a special trip out) and they are great. They are bulky and seem a bit old fashioned, but they keep the wee in.
