12 and / or 18 month check - what to expect?

Have just moved to an area where they do a routine 12 month check.

In our old area there were no development checks at all after the 8 month hearing test, so ds (19 months) has not had anything.

The HV wants ds to go for a check now, anyway.

Don't know what to expect - what would they have been checking at 12 months (clearly not going to be appropriate for ds) and what would an 18 month check involve?

I have no concerns about his development. However, HV said it would be a "group session" and that worries me a little because ds doesn't like being in big groups of children much and might not behave as he normally would at home.

DS 18 month check was at home, so no other kids around so may be completely different to a group section.

The Child Health Nurse asked me about how many words he had, whether he seemed to understand anything we were saying, got him to build with some bricks, saw how he reacted to pictures in a book (i.e. if he was showing interest, pointing), checked him for a squint, asked if he was scribbling with pencil/crayons at all, asked if he knew any body parts, like head, nose etc.

It was all fairly laid back and straightforward

Thanks MTS, I think he would still do those things if we were playing with other children there. They will probably all be 12 months old anyway!
