Potty training advice needed

DD is 2.3, I've been asking her if she'd like to use the potty before her bath since Xmas (she gets read an extra story while she sits on it) and in the last couple of weeks she has asked to sit on it & done a few wees & one poo Grin

I'm wondering what to do next... I've started asking her if she wants the potty at other times, but she's not shown any interest yet. Should I be letting her be nappy-free more often? Putting her in pull-up nappies? Or just carry on asking her until she shows more interest?

As an added complication #2 is due in April, but for a variety of reasons could turn up any day now, and I'm not sure that I really want to be chasing DD around the house with a potty while trying to feed a newborn!

Any thoughts?

I would be tempted to say go for it. Have a focused week of toilet training with no nappies all day, lots of drinks and time at home, and try and keep stress free. Buy some special knickers for her maybe look at some books with her about using the potty. You will soon get a good idea where she is. If it does not go well then I would be tempted to just leave it until after the baby is born. If all goes well great but be prepared for a few steps back after the baby is born.

I got much too stressed about toilet training DS1 with DS2 I have been much more relaxed and we are just starting today and he will be 3 in April. I could not cope with 3 children under 5 and wet pants!

I'd say go for it. Naked bottom half is easiest to start with but easy elasticated trousers and pants are an alternative. And lots of kitchen roll for the inevitable accidents.

Depends how you feel though as you need to have the energy to react quickly to requests for a wee to start with. Otherwise accept things as they are until you feel more settled after the new baby comes along.

Really wouldn't bother with pull ups as they don't get the idea that when they wee they get wet. Nursery suggested getting a pack of the cheapest pants you can find and then chuck them after poo accidents!

There is a potty training thread on here btw where you will get more advice.

thanks for your advice - I've posted on the potty training board now too!

I've been thinking we should just go for it for a week to see what happens, but DH isn't so keen & thinks we should just leave it until the summer, but don't think we should let this opportunity pass us by IYSWIM

She's out all day tue/wed/thur so I think I'll try a bit harder when we're at home on friday & over the weekend and see what happens!

I would say go for it too. We did the MN potty training boot camp with DD when she was 23 months and it worked brilliantly.

We had a couple of potty-specific books which she really liked (I think they are called "I want my potty" and "Where is my potty"), we read them when she sat on it. Also got her character pants from her favourite shows and explained Bob the builder does not like to get wet, so no wee wee on Bob. I think that helped too.

I would also advise to sit her on the "real" toilet from time to time without a training seat, it's great to get them used to it for when you are out and about.
