2.1 too early for potty training?

That's it really. Bought a potty in Asda last night, along with a gross of PullUps!

DS was at Nursery when he was potty trained, so they almost did it all for me, but this time it's down to DH and I. Any tips?

DD is currently playing in the living room, nudey from the waist down, occasionally sitting on the potty and laughing.

It's too early if they're not ready. Bit late if they've been ready for ages. Grin

DD was clean by 17 months (not through anything we did as she just hated dirty nappies) and dry by 2. But we largely followed her lead.

If your dd is showing awareness of a need to go then it's fine. I think most children are ready between 2 and 2 and a half.

We made an effort to train DD at around 2.1 (our motivation was a 3 month holiday). Obviously she must have been "ready" in that it worked, but if we hadn't had that impetus I don't think she would have been trained for a while later. Anyway it did take around 6 weeks to get her completely reliable, btu since then we've only had a handful of accidents.

DD was just turned three when she got it.

DS is 2.1 and he is desperately trying to potty train himself. I would rather wait a bit as I think he is nearly ready but not quite there, but am just going with the flow.

He keeps stripping off, shouts 'Wee Potty', and to be fair he has done quite a few wees on the potty so it is going quite well.

Have also had a wee on the settee and a dump on the floor thoughGrin Less fun.

Thanks all. We've had a sudden flurry of (fluke) activity! 2 carpet wees, one potty wee and a potty poo!!

Hiya, sounds like she's ready today then! We used a reward chart with our DS and it worked a treat (my big star chart from encourageandpraise.co.uk was the one we used). It could be used for things other than potty training too because it was all reusable and you can use whatever rewards you chose (trips to park, extra TV, chocolate treats etc). Sound like she will get the hang of it pretty quickly but just thought this might help things along and then you can use it for other things too. Good luck x

Good luck!

I think I was lucky, as both of mine just decided themselves when they were ready. We had the potty around and "practised" before bathtime for a while.

DS1 decided just before 2 and and half. DS2 was 3 and a half.

If they show interest, I'd go for it.

Hello good luck with the joys of the pot! I am about to start potty training number 3. My best advice would be to completely go cold turkey on the whole nappy pull/up thing as it gives mixed messages (wee and poos go in the potty but sometimes I am going to put a nappy on you anyway which kind of takes away the need for a potty). my freinds who have used them with their little ones always have seemed to have it tougher. I only use them for bed or nap times and if I need to go out and about I just take spares. My eldest two learned really quickly as a result fingers crossed for number three. We also sing songs for doing wee/poo and saying goodbye as we flush. For my second son who became a bit of a poophobe we even did hiphippoopooray which seemed to do the trick!
Both were boys aged 2 exactly. Good luck x
