Huge belly on 11 month old

Hi all,

The title says it all really. She has been walking for 2 months and her belly just seems to be getting bigger (I thought it would get smaller once she was walking). She eats normally, 3 bottles a day plus 3 meals....usually porridge for breakfast, a pasta dish for lunch and dinner usually (we use the Cow & Gate Little Steamed Meals). She loves fruit so she might get a bit of banana or some other fruit as a snack in between meals. She drinks water throughout the day. Her belly is soft, not hard at all as I have read that that would be cause for concern.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is a big belly totally normal?

Thanks!!

I'll be interested to see what others say- I sometimes wonder the same about my 10 month old (she's my first so nothing to compare it to) but friends (& my mum) who've had multiple babies each have seen her in just a nappy or naked in the bath and no-one has yet exclamed in horror so I assume it is normal!

it's very, very normal - you wait, one day when they are between 18 months and 3 you'll suddenly see them and think oh my God, where did that all go? once they start running around in the summer, it'll start disappearing...

Hi! I often wondered about this with my daughter and her little tadpole tummy. According to the few people I've asked its perfectly normal and will go in time, as nellieloula said.

Hi I got a pampers email saying it's just all their organs in their little bodies :-) my DD has a massive belly too but she hardly eats

Hi,

My DS2 is 2 and a half and his little belly swells and shrinks from week to week, depending on how he is eating. He currently has all ribs showing as he's not been eating due to an ear infection.

I generally find with my two DS's (DS1 is 7) that "their cheeks chub out and they shoot up", which to us means they get chubby cheeks and then they get taller.

They are extremely active and eat v. healthily.

My daughter's belly stuck out a lot and as she was a very good eater with a very healthy appetite we were getting a bit worried. However, she didn't get any ready-made meals or any sugar of any kind so the health visitor assured me she was fine. I expected her belly to go as soon as she started walking but in fact it's taken nearly a year for it to become a lot smaller. Now it sticks out more when she's eaten a lot but is otherwise just a little round girl's tummy. If you are worried, talk to your health visitor, I'm sure she'll be able to advise?
