Anyone's DC scared of 'Pinky ponk'???

DS is 22ms. We watch In the Night Garden everyday, buy the magazines, have the toys etc.

But he has suddenly started totally freaking out, I sat and watched it with him today and it's whenever the Pinky Ponk comes on. He was screaming shouting 'NOOOOOO, mummy, NOOOOOOO!' And shakes when he thinks it's coming.
And then all evening he's been asking about all the characters, as if he is checkin they are all ok.

Anyone else experiencing this???

My DS used to be terrified of the Ninky Nonk, and would turn over if the Ninky Nonk came on. Ridiculous as he's always loved trains.

He's pretty much over it now (he's 3 yrs 3 months!) but he does still have other totally random fears - Come Outside is still unwatchable as that damn dog keeps getting lost.

Tillyscoutsmum · 24/02/2011 21:27

DD loved ITNG but screamed whenever Makka Pakka blew his trumpet Hmm They are funny little pickles Smile

zingzillachinchilla · 24/02/2011 21:32

My DD loves it but it scares the hell out of me Grin

BoysAreLikeDogs · 24/02/2011 23:37

my youngest was terrified of Brum Hmm

Firawla · 25/02/2011 00:09

yes mine had a sudden outburst of pinky ponk terror too, after he used to love in the night garden. just all of a sudden she tarted screaming when the pinky ponk came on screen and really getting worried with it, but it didn't last long and he is now fine with it again. i think he would have been about 20 months when he did this.
i would just keep him away from watching it for a few days and he will forget about it and hopefully if he does see it again by then he will have just gone back to normal with it.
for mine im not sure it might have been the pinky ponk sound that was provoking it?! dunno really

seeker · 25/02/2011 00:13

My ds would certainly have been if he had been in the target age range.

He was terrified of Brum being driven by a pantomime cow.

And dd was rendered hysterical by the "scary lion" on the Telly Tubbies!

tholeon · 25/02/2011 11:11

bless him. Mine (20 months) seems to be in love with the Ha Hoos. Always wanting to kiss them...

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/02/2011 11:17

Very scared of the Pinky Ponk
Loves the pontipines but is very suspicious of the wattingers.

ElaineMcC · 25/02/2011 12:33

My DS 22months bursts into huge 'end of the world' sobs whenever the pinky ponk bumbs into a tree or gets hits by the ball and the characters fall over. We don't watch it any more.

According to MIL (who is wise) it's to do with their growing up and developing empathy with the outside world and realising cause and effect on other people - nothing to worry about Smile .

ElBandito · 25/02/2011 14:13

Mine hates the Ha Hoos (why are they there anyway? Pointless things). Wasn't sure about the Pinky Ponk but OK now.

It's interesting that the Ninky Nonk never crashes. I guess they don't want children to realise that their parent's car could crash or something.

He wouldn't care if the 'damn' dog did get lost in Come Outside - he gets scared when it barks.

ethelina · 25/02/2011 14:18

KenDodd my husband is suspicious of both the Wattingers and the Pontipines, makes all sorts of dubious assumptions about them.

IShallWearMidnight · 25/02/2011 14:22

DD1 is terrified of ITNG but as she's 17 I reckon she can cope with the trauma. The spooky spoon in the number thing also scares her. Sometimes I put on CBeebies just to laugh at desensitise her Wink

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/02/2011 14:27

Well the Pontipines seem to fart all the time!

ethelina · 25/02/2011 15:15

He's concerned about all the formation dancing. It freaks him out.

SeriousWispaHabit · 25/02/2011 15:17

DD1 (2.6) is also scared of Pippin getting lost in 'Come Outside'. And tadpoles on the frogs episode. And most of the baddies in 'Numberjacks'. Also the shapes on 'Mister Maker'. And owls Hmm .

She used to be scared of both the Pinkyponk and the Ha Hoos but is now 'very brave of them mummy because I am big' despite all of the above.

I am just scared of Sarah Jane's manic grin. I also worry she'll put her back out or something with all that bounding around.

13lucky · 25/02/2011 20:47

My dd is 4.6 and still runs out of the room every time the pinky ponk comes on when ds is watching!!!! The episode that triggered the trauma with her was the one where the pinky ponk got stuck in the tree. I thought she was a unique freaky child...but obviously not!

notcitrus · 26/02/2011 08:49

Ds was obsessed with ITNG... but then burst into tears with the Pinky Ponk - turned out he was feeling hugely sorry for it ponking its nose into trees all the time. So he was OK with most episodes after a bit except the one where it goes 'ponk' about 10 times...

After lots of reassuring that its nose was meant to bump into trees he got better. And then preferred Chuggington. And now Numberjacks, to the extent I finally have something I can bribe him with!

Auntie says the Pontipines and Wottingers are an allegory for the Labour and Tory parties...

iwasyoungonce · 26/02/2011 09:03

No, But have a 16m old terrified of Mr Whoops on "Grandpa in my Pocket" (his older sister watches it).

WillbeanChariot · 26/02/2011 09:11

I know Mr Whoops in real life, he's lovely!

My DS is fine with ITNG, but very scared of the singing waiter on Gigglebiz. What's that all about?

And my DH makes unsavoury assumptions about Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle Grin

3littlebadgers · 26/02/2011 17:41

Mine also terrified of Hahoos more like aghhhh hoos As soon as the music starts for night garden she screams nooo ha hoos! funny she has a little soft toy one she got free in a mag and she isn't a bit bothered by that just when they are on the telly!

jalapeno · 26/02/2011 18:45

Not scared of the characters as such but my DS1 used to cry uncontrollably if he heard the title music aged 2 ish. Also when the owl hooted a lullaby to its baby on Cbeebies he would be very upset! He's still a very sensitive soul Grin

My 18 months old cries at the pinky ponk too. Stupid thing.

mumsgonemad123 · 26/02/2011 23:59

Yes Yes Yes! My 19 month old son cries every time the pinky ponk comes on at the beginning instead of the ninky nonk. Its the only thing on tv that causes that reaction.

Pinkjenny · 03/03/2011 14:41

My dd is almost 4yo and is still absolutely petrified of the Something Special baby. She saw it for the first time at 18mo, and to this day, whenever an episode of SS comes on she says, 'It's not the baby one, is it?'
