super-sensers

I have heard that some children/people are super-sensers. Very sensitive to loud noises, lights, particular about food , complain about clothes' textures, labels. This perfectly describes my son but I wondered whether this is actually true of most children or not.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I wouldn't say so as my oldest now 6 has beenvry sensitive to noise, labels and light but is nw growing out of it whilst my youngest now nearly three is fine..I am ver sensitive though. I have never grown out of it.

My friend's DS is like this, and is now 7. Very limited diet (only about 5 things, literally), hates loud noise, and labels in clothes etc. Doesn't like having sand, mud, paint on his hands (although is a little better since starting school - he did touch the dough when they made bread in class, but wouldn't eat it). He also gets very upset if his Lego models get moved/knocked etc. He's very popular at school and has excellent social skills etc. and his differences don't seem to bother him, so none of the usual tactics work with him. My friend has had to try to accept that it's just the way he is, but it's hard for her sometimes, with things like eating out as a family (they can't). My DS is the same age (they are best friends) and is the complete opposite!

My son has very good social skills ; very good at empathy likes both younger nad older children but does demonstrate some traits as I described that seem as little odd. Maybe a phase or personality trait - not sure- as has been like this all his short life. Food is very difficult but is imrpoving but still won't mix foods; eat meat; eat sauces and aminly sticks to tomatoes and cucmber with occassional raw - never cooked -carrots.
