Constipation in DD 20mo

Hiya everyone - not sure where to post this

Just looking for some advice. My DD constantly suffers from constipation and I have tried everything to get her poo a bit looser, fresh fruit, veg, porridge etc this has been the case for a few months and GP wont do anything. When she needs to poo she runs about the room and goes red in the face when pushing. yesterday morning when I changed her nappy (was too late to get her on her potty) there was fresh red blood in the poo and on her bum. Is there anything else I should be doing to help her, should I take her back to the GP? I will check with her nursery today when I pick her up but i am worrying a lot about her.

I'd take her back to the GP. If possible, get an appointment with a different GP at the practice.

hi, my 19 month old ds has suffered on and off with constipation for about the last 8 months or so. Its an ongoing problem. Often he is ok for a week, then back to having difficultly. I offer as much fruit and veg as possible, all the right foods and it doesnt seem to make much difference.

I am convinced a big part of the problem is that he conciously stops himself from going, holds it in. He will sit on his heel or sit down in a certain position when he feels the urge to go and if i catch him doing it and lift him up he will poo, otherwise he suppresses it.

my GP prescribed me lactulose solution which i dont use all the time, only when he is really struggling. It does work, also prunes work! He definately is in pain when going sometimes, its awful to see, although i have never noticed any blood. I would see another GP and ask about the lactulose solution.

my dd is like this too. prune juice helps things along.

Prune juice definately. It was the only thing that worked for our dd, it was even better than lactulose. Dd suffered terribly from constipation and even developed a fissure, one drink of prune juice a day, about an inch and a half in a glass mixed with water, seemed to solve the problem. Hope it gets better soon.

It definitely sounds like she has a fissure and once you get the constipation sorted out, you can get a cream to help heal this. i cant remember the name of it but my Ds was prescribed it by a consultant.

If the natural things in the diet dont work then definitely try lactulose. However neither worked for my son and he was prescribed Movical. It worked like a dream. We had months of screaming before every poo and all of a sudden he started going without a problem. Good luck
