my 4yr old ds is very into reading/writing at the minute. I think he'd enjoy programmes like the old "words and pictures". I used to watch when i was at school. Does anyone have any recommendations?

My DD watches superwhy on tv - she loved the letters and words questions they ask. it's amostly based on well known stories.
just had a moment of nostalgia with words and pictures and that funny man....Smile

Not sure about dvds exactly but ...My DS at 3-4 absolutely loved a programme called Superwhy on Nick Jr for reading. ey hae stuff online either nickjuunior.co.uk or Nickjunior.com. Helped him no end and thoroughly recommend it.

Also Razzle dazzle on CBeebies. And Fun with Phonics on Cbeebies too. We also were lent a Disney Winney the Poo CD rom for the PC which he loved. For us in many ways the pc was a better way at it for our DS, more interactive maybe. Sesame street website is great, also playhouse disney, cbeebies, www.poissonrouge.com is amazing if you've not done it before. Most tv channels have websites and international ones have different sites for the US, which widens things a lot for variety. Can't always watch shows that air in the Us online because of internatinal rights but the games all work. Also state broadcasters in other english speaking countries, pbs in the US and Canadian Broadcasting company too. Ditto Australia, which I think may be called Sprout.

Poissonrouge is mya favourite though, doesn't relate to a tv show, at least not in the Uk and is an incredible, cavernous and deeply creative and fun site.

Fun has been key for us. He's just loved it all and so has so far fallen for the idea that learning to read and write etc is fun. He's now in Yr one and doing well.

Good luck!

Sorry for typos and not spotting the Superwhy suggestion already!
