Hi

Can anyone offer me some advice please? I have a one year old who has been sleeping really well both day and night since sep. I've noticed over the last few weeks that his daytime naps seem to be changing and he does not always waqnt his morning one anymore.

I know that this can happen but I still put him down for an afternoon nap, and usually he does need it. But I was wondering if I should try to put him down earlier in the day than I do for the afternoon nap which is normally around 1.30pm- 2 ish. Should I be aiming earlier, or just stick to what I'm doing?

Thanks...................

Hi Ruby, just seen your message. It's quite normal for him to start to drop one of the daytime naps by now - I have a 14 month old who sometimes doesn't want his morning nap. I guess it depends what time he wakes up in the morning -we're all up at 7 so if mine doesn't have his morning nap then he's really ready for a sleep at 12 and then he'll sleep until 2-2.30. If you get up later than that then maybe 1.30 would be fine, but I would suggest that reading his cues will tell you if he needs to sleep earlier - nobody knows your son better than you.
I certainly found with both of mine (have a nearly 4-year old as well) that they couldn't really go more than 5 hours without a sleep at this age. So we would be up at 7, sleep at 12, then awake at 2 and bedtime at 7.
Don't know if that helps at all but thought that somebody should reply to you, and I'm at that stage as well so it made sense!

As sleepychunky says - judge him.

I have a 14mth old who sleeps 6pm - 6am and still needs 2 naps - 9.30 - 11.30 and again 1.30-3pm
That is totally alien to me as my older two children dropped morning naps once they turned one and i think just had a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.
They are all different - i'd say provided your son still sleeps well at night, stick with what you are doing.
