Cranial osteopathy for minor behavioural issues

I wondered if anyone had experience of using cranial osteopathy for minor behavioural problems. My DD is 6. She?s very hyper, bouncy and impulsive and struggles with concentration (although she is bright and doing very well at school). She can concentrate when she has to (or when it?s something she?s interested in) but is often very fidgety. While other people comment on what a happy child she is, she is actually quite anxious and irritable at home, and finds it very hard to sleep (and is exhausted in the morning). I?ve always put it down to just the way she is, but her behaviour / anxiety seems to be getting more pronounced, and it?s affecting her ability to make friendships, which she finds upsetting. She?s popular with other children and plays well on a one to one basis, but doesn?t cope so well in a group environment, where she tends to become a bit solitary. I think the more stressed she is, the more bouncy she gets, and the less she sleeps, which produces a vicious circle. I?ve heard of CO being used for very anxious of hyperactive children (although I wouldn?t say she fitted the bill for hyperactive) and was wondering what people thought. She was a brow presentation that caused her neck problems at birth and was quite a difficult delivery.

Any thoughts welcome!

OKay, my DD is only 5 months old, but we have used CO on her with huge success. She was extremely anxious looking and frankly seemed v pissed off from the moment she was born. She was breech and an c section. We saw drastic results within 2 sessions. I asked the chiropractor at the time whether had we not sought treatment could this sort of seemingly anxious behaviour continued and do children sometimes get diagnosed with behavioural difficulties when it is something that could have been sorted at birth. She firmly believed this. She is very very well known for treating babies and children.

Thanks very much for this - really helpful.

By the way, would you mind giving me a rough idea where you are if you think the CO you visited was particularly good for children (i.e. just county or region - thanks)

The difference was amazing. But please don't let me get your hopes up! I can recommend mine, where are you based?

Curiousmama · 17/02/2011 17:17

Yes!! ds2 was very hard work when 3 and CO was a miracle for him (and us).

You need to get it done now though as the bones change after 6. It won't harm her so even if it doesn't help it's worth the try?

Good luck.

Thanks - that's what I thought. I just feel it there's anything I can do to make her life a bit easier I'd like to five it a go. Please-thanks ee're near Southampton.

Ah, never mind, we are Scotland. My recommendation would be find someone who specialises if you can.

taugenichts · 17/02/2011 17:29

Yes, CO is great.

Likesshinythings · 17/02/2011 17:29

I would also add a "yes" to this. DS was a terrible sleeper when first born - he would be awake for 12 hours at a stretch and consequently be extremely tired and shouty (as would I!). Took him for CO and within a week his sleeping was much better
The Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy website has a list of practioners which hopefully will help you to find someone in your area

My ds had CO because he has a dx of ADHD ... It was great for him and worked for a while ... we have 'top ups' every 3 months

diplodocus · 17/02/2011 20:31

Thanks all. Think I'll give it a go and see if it helps her feel a bit more settled.

Looking to see if you have an update?

thinking of the same for my DS

pipplin · 05/03/2011 20:27

Op try the natural practice in winch. There is one in Basingstoke? I think, not sure.
We used the two there and both amazing. Like a previous poster my DS was just pissed off looking when born, his first photo he just looks angry. He was very unsettled and fidgety etc. A month's worth of sessions. He was so much happier.

Does it help cure a highly stressful and demanding 2 year old who has demanded my constant attention all day long with mo interference whatsoever?! She has been like it since birth and wont even watch TV unless she is sat on my lap (I know tv is bad but sometimes its very useful) she wont ever watch it on her own. just wondering as I am thinking seriously of CO. Is it expensive do have done?

MadameSin · 08/03/2011 16:39

What kind of birth did you have? Many CO practitioners will ask that. You could try it .. No harm.

onadietcokebreak · 19/05/2011 14:04

Bumping again for an update......DS has appointments finally booked

diplodocus · 19/05/2011 14:10

Hi all! Just noticed this - sorry should have got back earlier.
I took DD for about 4 sessions. The CO said she could definately feel "tension". Thes results weren't dramatic, but were evident. She seems calmer and less tightly sprung. Her sleep improved after a few weeks and she now goes down well- which in turn makes her a happier child. As an aside, her reading came on in leaps and bounds (wasn't actually a problem and don't know if it was connected, but was very noticeable). She hasn't been for a few weeks now and I can see some of the tensions beginning to come back. Am taking her again next week.
