Should I 'teach'DS to wee standing up before school?!

DS will start school in September, at the moment he sits down for the loo.
Should I start and try to encourage him to stand. Don't want anyone teasing or laughing at him (obvious), or should I leave it to him.

No harm at all in gently encouraging him (just watch Daddy if he's around...) They do have cubicles at primary school but also lines of urinals so it would be normal to use them. Yr R though shouldn't be a place for teasing as they're all settling in but personally I'd teach him how big boys do it, yes. I have 3 sons FYI.

Dh taught ours, at my insistence, at age 3, just before they started preschool. Not so much to avoid teasing but cause I knew they'd want to try it as soon as they saw it and worried about the resultant mess. Ds2 wees standing up at preschool, or when out and about, but insists on sitting on the potty at home.

I think you (or ideally your dh) should show him how its done but then leave it up to him to decide when/if he does.

My DS is in reception and sits for a wee. It doesn't appear to be a problem. I don't think they are supposed to watch eachother in the toilet in reception!

Like bagpuss says, reception isn't a place for teasing - they are still pretty little.

When my little beasties started reception they used to go to the loo in groups (as in "Anyone whose name starts with the letters A to f can go now") so there was a fair amount of willy-watching Wink . Boys & their bits eh - nothing changes!

Thanks for replies , based on those I think we may 'introduce' the idea but not bother too much if he resists.
I'll ask DH to show him, then arm myself with extra floor wipes!

Our primary school doesn't have any urinals - they took the last batch out about a year ago

A friend of mine put a rubber ducky in the toilet bowl for her ds to 'aim' at. It didn't flush away as it's so light. Think you can get stickers for the back of the pan too. Even your dh may enjoy that Grin
