Taking 3 year old to cinema to watch Tangled?

milkyway2007 · 10/02/2011 21:27

Just wondering if I would be allowed to take my 3 year old into the cinema to watch Tangled. I have never attempted to take her to the cinema, as she doesnt like loud noises, and often even covers her ears when the tv is on loud...Also, she is quite fidgety.. but I noticed over christmas, she watched Enchanted all the way through, and when I tried to tell her to go to bed, she wouldnt go until she'd watched it all. So maybe she will sit through a whole movie?

Would it be okay to take her? Any tips on how or what I should do to avoid any tantrums/embarrassment...should I even take her? Or wait until she's older?

No nasty comments please!

Thanks for any advice

Take her and see. DD doesn't like loud noises adn always covers her ears until she gets used to it. The first time we took her she was very fidgety so be prepared to take her out. And enjoy it.

fivegomadindorset · 10/02/2011 21:29

Oh and I took my cousin to the cinema once (along with 5 of his brothers) and he did forward rolls down the aisle.

purpleturtle · 10/02/2011 21:30

I have taken 3yr olds to the cinema. Why don't you give it a go?

BelleDameSansMerci · 10/02/2011 21:31

I took my 3 year old DD to see Tangled. She has been to the cinema before though. The only area I would caution you on is the trailers/advertisements. The film is a PG and the advertising is "appropriate to the feature". My DD didn't like the adverts at all but was fine (and loved) the film. She really wants to see it again...

I think if you make sure you get seats by the aisle, you can make a swift exit if required and/or visit the loo without disturbing anyone.

There were lots of young children there when we went, btw, and no-one really bats an eyelid.

I think she would manage it fine. My three year old loves the cinema. However we went to see Tangled last week and had to leave after 5 mins. He doesn't like witches and was terrified. My husband stayed on with our nephew and they said the end would have been quite scary for him also. He is a sensitive wee soul, not sure what your DD is like.

I suggested the cinema to ds from when he was 3 but he was adamant he didn't want to go because it would be too loud, so I didn't push it, even though he could happily sit through a film at home without any bother. We eventually went to see something in 3D last year and I was completely ready to leave after 10 mins if that was what he wanted - he was good as gold all the way through.

Give it a try if you want to, if it doesn't work out it's no big deal. I want to see Tangled but ds has nixed it based on the trailer when we went to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader!

Fact: my ds has never seen a 2-D film at the cinema, I do wonder what this means for the future generation! Anyway, you can only try - if she's not ready, she'll let you know.

milkyway2007 · 10/02/2011 21:43

Thanks for the replies everyone - Definitely gonna take her next Tuesday now!

tras she loves Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and (slap on hands) I let her watch Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and she loves that too - so hopefully she wont get too scared..

just worried about how loud it is in there - oh well, we'll just see. A bit excited to take her now!

tribpot I would love for her to be part of this new generation watching everything in 3D - but the last 3D film I watched was Avatar, and unfortunately, I also wear glasses, so had to wear the 3D glasses on top - by the end of those 3 hours it felt like my nose was about to drop off!
I guess she'll have to make do with 2D for now, Grin

milky - LOL - me too. I have to wear the glasses over the glasses, still worth it! We have seen: How to Train Your Dragon (which I adore), Toy Story, Dawn Treader, Shrek 4. 3D rules!

mrsunreasonable · 10/02/2011 21:57

Try and go to a cinema that has a kids club screening (usually they are in the mornings) Ours is only £1 each so even if she don't like it you haven't wasted loads of money. Also I think if she can sit through a film at home then she should be fine at cinema. My 3 year old can't sit through a film at home because he is too tempted to play with toys, wander about but sits good as gold in the cinema!

Amateurish · 10/02/2011 22:06

I took DD to see Tangled last weekend - she's 2 years 3 months and she loved it. Unfortunately the 3D glasses were a bit too bit for her head so you may have better luck with a 2D screening.

goygoy · 10/02/2011 22:09

We are also planning to take DS to the cinema for the first time this weekend to see Tangled (he is also 3) so good luck! Smile The first time we took his big sister (she was also 3 at the time) we chose a Sunday morning early showing, just in case she was fidgety. Practically had the place to ourselves!

fidelma · 10/02/2011 22:23

I am not taking my 5 year old.it is ment to be scarey.

BelleDameSansMerci · 10/02/2011 22:29

fidelma - I was worried about that with DD. It's no more scary than any other Disney film (and probably less scary than the Snow White or Sleeping Beauty). It's a very good film.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 10/02/2011 22:33

Does you cinema have Saturday morning kids screenings? Good way to check it out, it's usually £1 each too, so nothing lost if you have to leave 20 mins in. Might be worth a try.

SE13Mummy · 10/02/2011 23:04

I took 6-year-old DD1 at the weekend and she loved it but being a cinema, the screen (and therefore the witches and other baddies) are enormous!

DD1 worries about witches, bombs from WW2 Hmm and house fires but because she already knew that Tangled was a version of Rapunzel, and knows the ending of Rapunzel, she loved it. I wouldn't have taken her aged 3 but then again, we're not a family that watches DVDs very often - Monsters Inc, Nemo and Mary Poppins are the only children's ones we have - so she's not really into Disney type films.

milkyway2007 · 11/02/2011 16:38

Yes, we do have a weekend morning kids screening for £1. I think the film on this weekend is Animals United, that looks a bit boring for her - she cant really get into Madagascar, so doubt she will like this.

goygoy good luck with the trip!! I am thinking of a tuesday morning with DD, I am sure no one will be there at that time! Hope your DS enjoys his first time in a cinema! lol

SE13Mummy My DD has developed a love for Princesses ever since I showed her Cinderella over christmas, and keeps repeating "rapunzel, rapunzel, let down your hair" - I have no idea where she heard this, but hoping she will love the film as she obviously knows the story!

I went to see it today - my 3 yr old LOVED it (she's almost 4 though). The first film my 3 yr old saw was Princess & Frog last year about a week before her third birthday and she totally loved that too. We didn't go to 3D version of Tangled though - DH took her to 3D How to Train your Dragon and glasses were a pain apparently as too big. I've only been to the cinema with her twice but both times she has had to sit on my lap throughout and also I took her comfort blanket with me as it was very necessary at the slightly scary moments. For what its worth I really enjoyed Tangled too, much better than many recent things I think.

milkyway2007 · 15/02/2011 15:17

We came back about an hour ago - There was NOBODY in the cinema - lol - as I expected at 11.50 in the morning! We had the whole auditorium to ourselves which was a brilliant first trip for her I think. She LOVED it! It's a really good movie!
She was good as gold, and I am so proud of her - cant wait to take her to see another movie in a packed cinema - I think she will be absolutely fine - dont know why I was so worried!

Im taking ds to see it this weekend cant wait looks like a fun movie.
:)
Our cinema does £1 saturday morning movies and they are great you should visit then.

fracturedrainbow · 16/02/2011 17:23

Did you go and see? I've been taking DD (now 2.5) since she was a baby - we used to go to the Odeon's newbie showings which was for mums and babies and they keep the light up a bit and the sound down a bit. Now we go to most big kids films (Shrek, Toy Story, Despicable Me) I tend to take her at showings that won't be busy, so on the weekdays I don't work at times before school finishes, and we often have the screen to ourselves. She is generally very well behaved, sits nicely and enjoys it - she likes to dance at the front when the credits roll though :) Tangled was very good I thought :o

fracturedrainbow · 16/02/2011 17:24

Doh! Just saw you had replied, I feel silly Blush

The3Bears · 20/02/2011 19:26

We've just been to watch Tangled it was great, really enjoyed it :)

milkyway2007 · 20/02/2011 19:58

Yes, it was great! I've had DD ask me a few times to go and see it again - I think we'll wait until its on kids AM lol. Might go and see Yogi Bear too now!
