2yo DD sobbed her little heart out last night....

... when Raymond the butternut squash went to sleep... Hmm
She was similarly upset when Lola went to bed.

An evening of Cbeebies while I am suffering from pg nausea seemed very upsetting to her. Lots of cuddles but she still seemed sad.

I am wondering if it might be some sort of separation anxiety, although she went to bed fine last night.

Any suggestions? Does anyone else's DC find TV (and sometimes books, come to think of it) really sad for no apparent reason?

LOL I remember my DS sobbing his heart out when In the Night Garden had finished! I gave it a miss for a while and he was fine later

Aw
maybe she just didn't want to go to bed?

My DD doesn't like it when anyone gets hurt! It really upsets her - I have to keep watching, to show her that they are ok!

My ds hates it when the ninky nonk goes up the tree and the tombliboos fall over! Have to cuddle him and tell him they're ok! Have introduced stories instead before bed but now screams because he hasn't seen Iggle Piggle before bed! Don't worry, children find it hard to tell difference between telly and real life Smile

My DD gets very upset about the Pontypines when they take food on the ninky nonk and it goes everywhere, she worries about what hte children will eat before bed. She also frets about whether they brush their teeth and use the loo before bed!

DS does this sometimes. Usually if it's near his bedtime when someone goes home, or when I tell him it's night time now and his toys have to go to sleep.

I find vocalising the feeling helps - just cuddle him and tell him "Yes, it's sad when we have to say goodbye to our friends, isn't it?"

Usually he cries even more because I've just put in words how he's feeling, but then after a short time with me whittering on about "Thomas and Percy are very tired now from all that playing and the lovely time you had today, I'm sure they're looking forward to playing again tomorrow! They'll be back again very soon." etc etc he calms down and is fine. Reassuring him they will be back even if it's not straight away seems to help too.

All 3 of mine have shed tears over "The baby who wouldn't go to bed". It's the bit where the baby stands "quite still, all alone with the sleeping world around them." I don't even think that's a particularly sad story.

DD cries at In the Night Garden everytime. But she love Waybaloo so we have to be very fastest finger first when Waybaloo is over

milkyway2007 · 09/02/2011 21:33

omgosh..Reading all your posts - I am so happy my daughter grew out of In the Night Garden when she was about 2. That programme annoyed the shit hell out of me - that stupid piano music!! and those pontypines...

My daughter gets sad when cinderella's sisters tear her dress apart in the disney movie. The first time she watched it, she was shocked with a tears in her eyes :(

She's not really used to it, I was feeling pretty sick so we were having a Cbeebies marathon, maybe it was all too much!

Glad she's not the only one, though, little sensitive things!

OMG I could have written your post! We always read stories at bedtime and literally in the last couple of weeks whenever anyone goes to bed at the end of the story, DD gets really upset. But weirdly, has never had a problem going to bed herself!

BTW she does it if we read the books in the day aswell, not just at night. She cried when we read a book about a monkey finding his mum at the end, this week! Glad she's not the only one! She's 20 months.

pookamoo · 11/02/2011 22:38

Ahh Maybe tonight we read Upsy Down Town and in the end, the birds get to go to bed in peace and quiet... except this was very, very sad to DD... she wanted to be sure they would wake up again!

In Timmy Time once Timmy's teddy fell in the compost heap and got all dirty and DD1 was mortified, had to sit and cuddle her all through the bit where he had a bath and got all clean and lovely again...
