Sit on a potty while the bath's running. And lots of praise if he happens to poo in it.

BuckingBronco · 04/02/2011 14:27

About 50 mins

We have the same thing with one (sometimes both) our DTs. For past 2 weeks. They are 16 mos.

I would recommend the potty. Always did this with my 2 at times when I thought a poo was likely, and it saved many nappies as well as bath water!

Yeh - was thinking of putting the potty in the bath.

Thing is he is a live wire and gets even more excited in the water.

I will try this eve PaisleyLeaf

My daughter is 3 and a half and only stopped pooing in the bath a few months ago ? I called in the health visitor as she was refusing to use a potty and was at my whit's end.
The health visitor was extremely helpful and after asking me for a description of her poo (?!!!!) told me that she had been holding in. This is probably due to it being painful once or twice before and causing her to be wary of going at all, so saving it up for the bath as it's a warm and more comfortable place to go. It sounds like your son's a bit small for potty training but, the way we put a stop to it was by making her drink a lot more and thus helping it come out in the day time. Unfortunately this meant giving her juice (only with lunch and very diluted) so that she'd drink a full cup-full at lunch time and that helped her to go shortly after lunch. I also gave her stewed fruit made with a little sugar which usually had pretty good results! Now she's used to using the loo and much better she doesn't need all the juice etc any more but still try to keep as much fluid going in as poss. It hadn't occurred to me before that she was holding it in, but as the health viz explained, there's always a reason for these things and with my daughter it was that her poos were too hard and painful! So the addition of more fruit and fibre and lots more liquid helps soften it and also makes it come out earlier rather than saving it up for a bath. Hope this helps. Don't leave it too long ? we had 2 years of nightly bath pooing and I was going nuts by the end!! (We have a dedicated 'poo seive' ? that's how regular it was!!) Hope this helps, sorry for the long reply but was necessary to explain the details!

DS did that for ages, so I took a short cut and gave him showers instead! talking about avoiding the issue... He loved showers though and I did this until he was fully potty trained. I think that warm water helps them relax and they don't feel their muscles so much.

All seems to have sorted itself out.
No longer is bath time the chosen time!

Yes a little early for potty training and definitely not a witholding/constipation issue (had that with DD circa 3yrs).

Thanks all who posted.
