11 yr old ds, is this Hormones?

DS1 has just turned 11 & lately he seems to have a day or two every two or three weeks where he is really irritable & angry & struggles to control his temper.
The slightest thing triggers complete rage.

Its almost like PMT, he also gets very tearful & sensitive.

I think the hormones are starting to kick in as he also has started getting the odd spot or two & his hair is greasier than it used to be.

How can i help him manage his anger & irritability, is there anything I can add to his diet that may help?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

It's hormones.

Just love him, be there if wants to talk.

He will suddenly go from "GRRRRRRRRRRR" to "Mum, can we have a hug?"

Remind him that he should respect house rules about controlling his temper even though he may sometimes feel cross/tired/pissed off etc.

Tell him you feel this way too sometimes but you've learned to control it and he will learn too.

Ride the wave.

Yes, hormones. I was really pleased with one of my nearly 12 year old boys last night as he controlled his normally sparky temper when his brother hurt him by accident. Just keep boundaries enforced and also positive reinforcement going. Loads of cuddles too.

Thanks Ooopsadaisy,
So far i've stayed calm & resisted the urge to yell back.
He is full of remorse when he calms down, I can see a rage brewing because he's so irritable.
I sent him in the garden after school today as he was so grizzly, he kicked the ball around for half an hour & came back in much calmer.
But thats not always an option, he's says he knows he's being grumpy & angry but he can't stop it.

Oh, make sure you have food available as soon as he gets in. Blood sugars dipping can cause the irritability when they get in from school. Hand him a banana or summat.

Thanks VISITOE, I've been making him drink more water too as i'm sure he's worse when thirsty
