Hello everyone,
My DD is nearly six months old and i have just started weaning her onto baby food (From a jar)
To help her to learn to swallow it i give her a small spoon and then put the dummy straight into her mouth.
Do you think this is a good idea or should i encorage her to swallow food by herself?
Im unsure whats the best way Hmm

Just let her swallow by herself. My babies at this age have always liked a spoon to hold themselves to chomp on.

Let her swallow by herself - she could easily choke sucking on a dummy with food in her mouth

She's quite capable of swallowing, she's been doing it since before she was born, first amniotic fluid, then milk, now food. There's really no need to give her a dummy during meals, I'd have though that'd just confuse things. My gut feeling is that it could even be dangerous, although I have no grounds whatsoever for feeling that.

Babies of her age are quite capable of biting, chewing and swallowing actual pieces of food, they just need time to perfect the techniques. So, if you'd rather give her purees than 'food' just follow her cues and offer a new spoonful once she's emptied her mouth.
