At what age can babies start to play by themselves?

My DD of 7 months can play on her own with toys and soft teddy bears for about 7min and they start crying for attention. Sometimes it can be frustrating as I cannot do any thing else but look after her when she is awake. At what age can babies play by themselves for about 30?

My DD is 10 months and happily plays by herself. She has been doing so for a while now but I can't remember exactly when. Some babies are happy on their own and others seem to need more attention. I think with second and subsequent children they quickly learn they can't always have your attention.

You are lucky. Cannot wait to see my DD happyily playing on her own. I hope it starts to happen soon cos i'm going back to work when she is 8months and dont think my DH will be able to cope.

My DD is 10mo also - I think it was around the 8.5/9mo mark that I remember her playing by herself.

If your DD isn't at that stage by then (and they're all very different) then DH will have to cope. There's not much else he can do.

I will just have to be strong. DD has a lot of toys but I think she obviously prefers human. DH spends a lot of time watching tv.
