Is it normal for boys to wee in something other than the toilet ???

My DS (5 yrs) has started weeing in objects that shouldn't be wee'd in ! He did it a year ago in the toy box in his bedroom we talked to him about it and it was not repeated so we forgot about it. This week so far he has done it in the toilet brush holder, DD's boot and just now a toy water gun. When questioned he denies it was him and gets really cross when we explain it could only have been him. He later admits to it but doesn't know why he does it.
Is this a normal "boy " thing that he will grow out of or something else. Any advice gladly received.

Hmm. I thought you meant a younger boy initially, and was going to say totally normal! Mine had a fair assortment of containers dotted around the house when he was about 3. Great fun HmmGrin

I'd put it down to experimenting. Mine still does odd experiments including the use of wee and other odd things (thankfully not the other iykwim) to make 'mixtures' and scientific erm, well, I dunno what they are.

I get a bit annoyed about it but yes it is a boy thing.
I'm sure you can handle it with humour and a gentle explanation of why wee isn't nice to play with.

He doesn't sound weird to me.

Oh and give him a limit - say, don't wee in shoes or anything that belongs to other people because they won't appreciate it and it might leak.

Say he can use certain plastic cups for instance in the bathroom as long as he puts them somewhere after for you to wash.

The less you can manage to make him feel ashamed, the more he's likely to cooperate!

Well, up until 3 days ago I'd have said no.

However ds2 has weed in : his backpack, a tupperware bowl under the dining room table, the log box, the playhouse made out of a dishwasher-sized cardboard box, a drawer from his brother's wardrobe and a small decorative tin. All in 3 days.

But he is only 3.2.

I do remember ds1 (who is now nearly 15), at age 5, just stopping on the pavement, pulling down his pants and trousers and weeing right there. I was so Shock that I couldn't do anything till he was nearly finished, by which time it was too late, really. Most odd. (It was only the once though)

He is very immature for his age, so maybe it's just that and experimenting.

Think all males wee whereever they like.....my ex did it in the wardrobe (came home drunk)....but thats another story!!

Not just boys, my DD used to pull saucepans out of the cupboards, tried to do it in the toilet of her dolls house, in a lego bucket.
she outgrew it. IIWY, I'd give him some 'safe' things to piddle in. Nobody wants to rinse their teeth with urine.

Oh hell yes it's normal but obviously needs to be discouraged.Grin
My DS went through a phase of weeing out of the back door (he was 4-5 at the time). Thank goodness at the time we lived in the middle of nowhere so he could not be seen.

When Ds 3 was about 3 he use to wee in the teddies baket. That was horrible but it taught me that a lot of teddied where the label says "not machine washable" are actually machine washable!Smile
