DD was called fat at school yesterday- WWYD?

DD(9) has started puberty and is getting some puppy fat. She doesn't look any bigger when clothed though as she has a slim build. I've been wondering what to do as DD is quite lazy and I've been trying to get her to do some more exercise without drawing her attention to it, even signed her up for multi-sports after school once a week.

Anyway, she came home from school yesterday quite upset as one of the boys in her class had called her fat. Shock I just replied that it sounds like he was just trying to get some attention from her and not to worry about it.

I don't want to go down the 'well you are putting on a bit of weight' route tbh, but wonder if I was a bit too dismissive of what the boy said and what to say in future if it becomes an issue.

Thanks.

No experience with adolescents, but sounds to me like you handled it perfectly.

I do have to say that puppy fat is a myth. Get her to eat better and take exercise, it gets harder and harder to shift weight, you are doing her no favours by not dealing with it now. Call it health.

My DD is currently in the middle of a growth spurt, she gets a minute ring of fat around her waist then shoots up about 10cm. There is no way on earth that she could be described as fat per se, however she is chunky when unclothed.
She keeps telling me her thighs are fat, they are like sticks of spaghetti. I reassure her they are not and point out that she is growing.
Tell your DD to punch the boy in the mouth the next time he says something.
Really? I'd try extra walking and swimming and lots of praise etc. My DD is 9.8
