My little boy is going on 6 years old this year.Grin He's loverly but he just wont do things for himself. From picking up his toys to getting dressed.
I know he can do these things and i'm scared he will become lazy later on in life.

My DS1 is 8 and only really started to do this sort of stuff from 7 onwards, I also got less obsessive about him having a tidy room and he likes to keep it his way with toys whereever, as long as I can walk to his wardrobe and there are no dirty clothes or rubbish I'm cool. i think they like to have a sense of ownership of their own spcae.

I still put out his school clothes every morning but he now does get dressed himself, he is dozy in the morning and it just makes it easier and quicker if the clothes are ready there and then, but at the weekend he sorts himself out.

I don't think he will become lazy in later life, school is pretty tiring for them and I think we forget that that is their universe and it makes them tired.

So I'd suggest letting him have a bit more freedom on the toy front and in return maybe half help him with clothes, as otherwise every day is a battle and quite frankly life is too short!

Teach him to put his toys away or the consequences are he cannot have them out next time he wants them ?

Encourage him to dress himself with some sort of reward system and give praise when he does.
Its probably just a habit he has got into because you did these for him too long ?

Some children insist on doing things for themselves and get annoyed if you try to do it for them - others will happily let Mum do everything. !
