Oh yes I have been told DS is "pretty for a boy" Grin !

RedHeels · 26/02/2011 14:16

LifeofKate - if my DD were a DS, that's the name she'd have Smile.

I have a turquoise pram so that obviously means that DD has a willy. Telling people her name does not solve a problem, as someone last week has asked me whether "it's a he or a she" Confused and Grin. It is a girl's name BTW and sometimes used over here, although 'forrin'.

LifeOfKate · 26/02/2011 20:46

Ooo, kindred spirits, RedHeels :o I also love turquoise (and had no idea it was a 'boys colour' Confused). I think that bugs me too, it's bad enough that 'baby' blue/pink have been hijacked by specific genders, without the extension into purple/pink/most reds (especially with spots) being girls colours and blue/brown/green being boys colours as well Confused

mummytowillow · 26/02/2011 20:54

I was stood outside a church once, a couple of men asked me how 'he' was, 'she' had pink tights and a pink dress on!! Idiots!

MerylStrop · 26/02/2011 21:03

they do it deliberately to wind you up

it's an old person in joke

MrsDimples · 02/03/2011 23:35

What does it matter? Confused

mummynoseynora · 02/03/2011 23:37

the pink will make no difference, I once got asked if my DD was in fact a DS - she couldn't have been more than about 4 months old ,in a dress and pink tights, and in a pink fleecy blanket in her pushchair.... Confused

maxybrown · 02/03/2011 23:41

well, (and I don't care btw, it's funny) but once again - out the other day, DS dressed in brown lace up boys boots, jeans, a duffle and flat cap (as in old man flat cap) someone at the bus stop says to me "Oh I like HER cap" Confused

oneortwoorthree · 03/05/2011 10:47

despite all the pinkest girliest outfits, everyone always thinks our DD is a boy, basically because she doesn't have her ears pierced which is the norm here (we live in barcelona). i gave up caring a long time ago, it has made me realise how unobservant people are! unlucky for them!

Pigleychez · 04/05/2011 08:27

DH receptionist at work asked if DD1 was a boy or girl as a newborn depite being dressed in a pink dress.

Recently an old dear called DD2 (11mths) a boy too despite wearing a pink top and having a pink clip in her hair!

I always make sure I have a good look before ever commenting on anyones baby... or just dont!

suiledonne · 04/05/2011 08:33

I'd say if your dd is only 5 months you'll probably hear it again. Grin

It's certainly happened to me with dd2 a few times.

The one that really made me think Hmm was last year. She had just turned 2 and we were in the shoe shop. A mother, daughter and grandmother were in there too trying shoes on their little girl who was a similar age and dressed quite similarly to my dd.

The grandmother was smiling and chatting to dd2 and then asked me what age 'he' was!

It was ridiculous. If anything my dd was a bit girlier looking than her granddaughter. I like to think she was just jealous.

veggieface · 20/09/2011 15:41

It's even worse when they not only get the sex of your lovely new baby wrong but then go on to ASSUME you're the grandparent... this has happened 3 times now, I think it's time fo Botox...

olibeansmummy · 20/09/2011 21:52

Lol ds was mistaken for a girl recently has be had a pining shirt on. He couldn't look more like a boy and is 2.3 so not a baby. Annoyingly it was by a man with long hair!
