Hi, has anyone tried a childs hypnotherapy CD to help their child sleep. My DD is nearly 4 and always had trouble with sleep. We have a good sleep routine but she struggles to resettle in the night when she wakes. I recently been using a Natal Hynotherapy CD for my 2nd Preg and googled a couple for kids. I wonder if anyone has experience of using them. I think she is just about old enough to understand the concept as we need to break the anixety loop she is in when waking up.

Try these - I have another one in the range called relax kids magical meditations for superheroes he is 7 now but has been listening to them on and off for years. I download them onto my ipod and play them with some nmini speakers in his room or if we are away and is unsettled - they are really good. Another mumsnetter recommende them to me...

Hi Ssmile I am afraid I haven't used a CD for kids (as I don't have any yet!) but I am a hypnotherapist. Children respond really well to hypnotherapy because their subconscious is generally believed to be much more open and active than grown-ups'. In my experience, they particularly enjoy (and get a lot out of) hypnotherapy that is based on stories - especially ones that involve lots of detail to engage all of their senses and lets them transport themselves to their own creative world.

One thing to be aware of is that hypnotherapy is unregulated (ie you don't have to do any kind of training to work as a hypnotherapist) so it's really worth checking the credentials of the people who make any CD you are considering.

The kind of things to look for is that the hypnotherapist is accredited by a body such as the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR).

Hope that helps and that your LO enjoys the CD!

Thanks for the feedback. Its not something we had considered before but I think she would respond well to. After 4 yrs of really poor sleep and 2nd one on the way we are willing to try anything that might help!

I tried these for DS who quite suddenly stopped being able to get to sleep aged about 7. He didn't like them - kept giggling when the lady said 'relax and let go' in a sort of dreamy voice.

I thought they were nice, but didn't bother with another type as he was set against them then. Winnie the Pooh story CDs worked well, on a low volume, and later Harry Potter.

He stays asleep once he's gone off though, so a different problem from yours. And of course he's older.

This is interesting. We're on day ten of rapid return and he was still up 6 times last night. We're all exhausted. Thanks for giving me the idea - I thought we'd tried everything!

A hyphnotherapist told me about the counting backwards technique ages ago. I often have told the dc bedtime stories that involve repetition and suggestion interspersed with counting backwards from thirty say to get to sleep... Works well at calming too... Think it would be good to teach to dd actually.

I think anything that can put control back in their hands is good.

Thanks for all the infor. I've ordered a cd by Christiane Keer which had good reviews on amazon, she is a Montetessi teacher and my sister has had good results with calming / focus with her little boy using a Montetessi PreSchool so here goes worth a try to get a little more sleep. Wink
