6 week old fights sleep all day

Does anyone have any tips on getting a 6 week to sleep during the day. He fights sleep all day, getting more and more tired and grouchy before finally going down at around 7pm. He sleeps very well at night, normally only waking 2 or 3 times for quick feeds between 7pm and 7am. However, I feel like he needs to sleep more in the day as you can see him getting exhausted. His eyes close a million times a day but you can see him fighting off actual sleep!

I have tried a dark quiet room, music on his cot, a dummy, leaving him to cry for 5 minutes (I don't feel comfortable leaving him longer than this as such a young age), shusshing him, rocking him, stroking him...any more tips!!!

He will go to sleep in the pram or car seat, but I would love to get him to sleep without having to take him out, only for him to wake up as soon as we get home!

Swaddled?

Maybe he needs to be put down earlier?

Your nights sound very good for such a young baby - does he settle well then?

Sling? I have a sleep fighter and the wrap sling is our saving grace.

Wrap sling, definitely. And I am an expert in nap-resistant babies Grin

Hi, a couple of things that eventually worked for us were fairly loud White noise (you can buy White noise CDs, or untune the radio) and starting to get in a bit of a routine - regular getting up time then down for a nap 2-3 hours later, or at the first yawn round about that time. I am breastfeeding so that always worked a treat, so I used that to get my dd used to regularly going down in her cot at certain times, before gradually trying to do it without the boob. She also has a cuddly animal blankie thing I had put down my pyjamas one night, I don't think that worked at first but it eventually did. Agree with the swaddling - I put my dd in her sleeping bag even in the day, which is semi swaddling I suppose. You've probably tried most of these but if not I hope one of them helps.

You could just put him in the pram and rock him back and forth in it until he drops off. This is the only way my DD will take her naps. It's a pain but better than having a cranky baby. I hope one day she'll move to having naps in her bed but for the moment it's better than nothing.

Sorry thought your Ds was 6 months not weeks so the routine/ getting to go to sleep not using boob thing are less relevant. Or were in my case. But White noise still worth a shot.

The only trouble with a sling is that he is already 12lb and I am only small so I find him so heavy!! He does settle OK in the evenings but we can't use the same routine in the day as it involves bath etc.

Have you ever tried a wrap sling? Much different to actually carrying them. Dd is 13lb and fine in hers for a couple of hours. Really recommend a Kari Me.

What did he do 8 weeks ago without you giving him a quiet music room with a dummy??
