walking to school

My dd is nearly 7 and in Primary 2. She has been asking to walk home from school on her own for some months now but so far I have said no. School is only 5-10 mins walk on a footpath with no roads and there are lots of parents and children using the route. She is generally sensible and often runs ahead of me with friends so is essentially on her own anyway. I thought I could start by meeting her halfway along the path to start with. The parents round here are quite protective and a lot of the children even in the year above her are still walked home by parents so I feel I shouldn't let her. What do you think?

I would do just as you suggest. You have to trust your own instincts on these things.

I think she is to young to walk home from school by herself. In the schools around here childrenhave to be met by a responsible adult until they are 8. Most xhildren actualy don't walk home from school until they are 10.

i think its WAY WAY too young. the kids here dont tend to walk on their own till year 6 so they are 10/11. 7 is very young. my ds is nearly 8 and very sensible but i wouldnt dream of it
