8 yr old dd's nipple enlarged but other one not!

Hoping someone with older daughters could advise me.

I noticed about 6 weeks ago that dd1 who is 8 breast area looked different to her 5 and 3 year old sisters. This was fine as thought just first stages of dd1 developing. (Also at this point the difference wasn't enough for any of my dd's to notice.

Anyhow a few days ago dd1 told me that one her of her nipples is larger than the other. I slightly noticed this when she said it but was busy seeing to my other kids. Took another look today and the difference is quite marked.

One nipple doesn't appear any bigger but her other nipple is like a little bud. I would not be concerned if both nipples were the same.

I am not too keen on taking her to the doctor at the moment, as don't want her to be embarrassed of her body or think there is anything up.

Does anyone know if this is normal development? I would have thought both nipples/.breast area would develop at roughly the same rate?

can you phone your doctor and leave a message for one of the doctors to call you back and have a quick chat on the phone about whether or not she should be seen?

Don't worry. It is perfectly normal for one side to develop before the other. :)

"Your breasts will start to grow. Your breasts will start as breast ?buds?, small mounds beneath the nipple and areola. (The areola is the dark area surrounding your nipple.) One breast may start growing before the other, sometimes even 6 months before the other."

Thanks for the advice. I had thought of going to see one of the gp's without dd and asking for advice. Worried incase it is something sinister but again didn't want to get dd concerned.

Muminbeds saw that website earlier. I am just unsure if it is actually just her nipple or if there is a slight mound underneath it.

Think I will just phone the doctors and just check.

Thanks.

thanks metherbumfit.

Funnily enough I had the "period" conversation with her on Tuesday because she was wondering about sanitary (sp) towels Grin.

Think I may need to go further into the conversation about developing bodies.

Thanks as was hoping for advice from someone who has daughter/daughters older than mine.

Perfectly normal for breasts not to develop at the same time/rate.

This happened to my 8 year old dd. I took her to the Dr and it turned out she had " prepubescent mastitis". I was told it was very common and did not mean early onset of puberty. It has since disappeared, stayed a good few months. Contact your Gp for piece of mind.

It's totally normal, the same thing happened to my DD.
No need to waste a GP's time with it.
I recommend this book.
I'm very open with DD, but some things she'd rather read for herself.
