Sodding bloody leaking nappies!

Species8472 · 08/01/2011 17:03

DD (18m) keeps getting leaky wet nappies; when it happens it always seems to be either when she's been in the car seat or in the pushchair, so seems to be a sitting down thing Confused(never first thing in the morning with a full night nappy and very rarely after a nap in her cot). Am getting really fed-up of getting her out after a trip out and having to change her clothes! Using Pampers at the moment - any recommendations for any other brands? Am not interested in re-usables.

Maybe try going up a size? We mainly used huggies and rarely had leaks.

Sounds like she started doing big wees rather than lots of little ones - potty traing her????? GrinShockGrin

Potty training??!! Shock. Aargh, was hoping to avoid that for a while longer! Smile. Might get bigger nappies and see if that makes any difference (might buy a potty and try though, just for fun!) Is this big wees thing typical at this age then?

It happens at some point and if you have a heavy wetter when they start doing big wees it is a bit of a nightmare!

I used resuables during the day so can't give you any recommendation I'm afraid!

how often do you change her? Maybe try (if you don't already) a fresh nappy before going in buggy/car seat?

I'm a childminder and find huggies better for 85th+ percentile children but pampers better for lower percentile or tall thin children.

CarGirl · 08/01/2011 18:15

Mothercare sell disposable booster pads so putting one of them in may be an option if she's going to be sat down for a while but I suspect it's the fact she is letting a large amount of fluid out quickly that it just can't absorb it quickly enough.

Thanks all, very useful! I do almost always change her before putting her in pushchair/car. Haven't had her weighed for a while but last time she was between 50th-75th percentile, she's probably shorter and chubbier, rather than tall and slim. Might try the booster pads Smile

I found pampers to be neither use nor ornament on my DD. Leaks in every direction at all ages and they gave her nappy rash. Huggies were our favourite, or more affordably, tescos.

But try potty training by just sitting her on the potty every time you do a nappy change rather than just getting rid of the nappy altogether. She might use the potty instead and you'll start having dry nappies. A much less stressful way of potty training. My Mum always did this with me, my brother, and more recently my nieces. My brother was dry by 18 months and my nieces were dry by 2.

DH is a SAHD and I tried to get him to do it with DD but well....

I have an 18month old DS. I use Tesco pullups size 5. Rarely have leaks. Even ok over night. Can't use ordinary nappies as he is too much of a wriggle and escape artist!

Right, off to buy a potty and bigger nappies! (well, maybe not now....drinking red wine Wink)
