How do you keep gloves and hat on?

OK, maybe a minor point, but it is making walks and days out a bit of a fight; any tips?

how old?

Hat: sheer persistence. Something that ties on also helps.

Gloves: similar advice really. Just keep putting them back on until they forget/ give up.

If the hat you have doesn't tie up, you can always sew on ribbons, so it can be tied. Did this with DD and DS. We found using ribbons and a cord grip most effective.

Hat- she actually likes her hat.

Gloves- don't bother, it's not so cold to make it worth the effort!

Hats that cover ears/ have ear flaps stay on ds much better than beenie style ones

glue Grin

this hat stays on. We bought it as it has a fastener under the chin, but she actually keeps it on anyway.

No help on the gloves I'm afraid, we just zip the footmuff up high and get her to keep her hands underneath it. She usually has one glove off while I'm putting on the second and if we manage to get both on (mittens) she takes them off with her teeth Hmm

JJMB allinone fleece. Has turn over hands and feet which cant be lost, plucked off and deposited etc and a built in hat.

DD 18 mo we use hats that tie & continually say 'keep your hat on it's cold' when she grabs a handful, this is working so far. Gloves - I've given up. Bought clips after losing a few, she now shakes & shakes & shakes her hands til they come off then gives herself a round of applause & a cheer for outsmarting the stupid device mum spent a fiver on Grin
funny thing is she loves wearing gloves around the house....

ommmward · 03/01/2011 14:41

I don't. If one of my children wants to wear a hat or gloves, they do. If not, not [shrug]

Actually, one coat has matching mittens attached with elastic to the sleeves (v. swanky) so that means that if that particular child feels like wearing gloves, they are right there at a moment's notice.

DD will happily wear DHs had and gloves when she won't wear her own. She looks funny but at least it keeps her warm.

bunnybunyip · 03/01/2011 17:01

Thanks all. DS is just over 18 months so can't tell us yet when he has changed his mind and would actually quite like his gloves on so I just keep periodically trying them. Otherwise just feel like a terrible parent for taking him round half dressed with bright red hands.
