hi,

wanted to see if eyeQ would help my DD (bad concentration, speech not too great, always hyper etc) and bought the eyeq chews thinking they would resemble a haribo or something like that - little did I know. DD is having none of it. tried to cut them and sneak the oil into the food - does not work either (DD refuses anything that has this stuff inside). before buying anything else, I just wondered if there is eyeq stuff that does not taste of fish. does anybody know?

also, any tipps for getting the chews (or oil inside) sneaking into the food?

cheers,
elif

I use the strawberry EyeQ ... chewables, but my son swallows them whole because of the fishy taste. Haven't found any that don't taste of fish sadly

I posted on another thread about this today - not sure if it's the same OP!

You need to try Bassett's Soft & Chewy vitamins - they do several different Omega 3 variants for different ages of children.

I have tried the Eye Q paste type sachets and the liquid. I mix them in with DD's yogurts plus some pureed fruit to try to disguise the taste/smell. All in all they are pretty foul. Also, I have only been giving one 5ml spoon a day rather than the three (I think) 5ml spoon a day you are supposed to give for the first three months as DD does not have enough variety of foods for me to disguise them in!!

is EyeQ omega 3 oils? Because if so, maybe get some linseeds/flax seeds and sprinkle them in food. They are rich natural sources and taste of pretty much nothing. I put them in DS' porridge. Cheap, too.

Would second the Bassetts vitamins - they taste like orange jelly sweets.

Have you talked to your doctor or health visitor? I honestly have no idea if they would be helpful but it may be that a change in diet would help. Or you could perhaps look at a low gi diet because it is So insanely full of good vitamins and minerals and low on bad carbs and sugars.

I started a similar thread a few months ago, and tried all the brands suggested. Unfortunately none of them went don very well - including the Bassetts (Hello BIWI, by the way!)I think children have such super sensitive taste buds that they can suss even the faintest whiff of fish oil!

I tried the seed option too, which they also seemed to detect. I think that the quality of the omegas from seeds is different to fish oil as well, I think it was a Thumbwitch who was very knowledgeable about it all if you wanted to do a search.

It is unfortunate that even if you give them a varied diet, that without the oily fish, it is so difficult to get omegas into them.

I hope that someone comes up with something more helpful - sorry!

They Are What You Feed Them is a really good book, on the diet front. I found it useful.

NOTHING to do with Gillian McKeith, I hasten to add! The author has actual, you know, qualifications. Jamie Oliver used her as an advisor when doing his School Dinners campaign.
