Just mentioned it to DS 3. Bad idea it seems as he has only just started to be fine going to the doctors after being so scared he would throw a major wobbly even going through the door! :(

It's not until 31st Dec. What should I do/say?? Really wish I had said nothing now!

Eeeek talk about Christmas a lot and try to distract him. I really think that he's sooo little and I'd just gloss over it until the day if I were you! My ds is 3.4 and had his last week, I didn't mention it to him until we got into the doctors cos I knew he would just worry for days and freak out about it! He was fine x

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/12/2010 19:04

Is it 2 jabs at once meandjoe?

Interesting, dd1 has hers after Xmas. Haven't mentioned it, but have scheduled it yo be the same time as dd2's next lot. Not sure if that is a good plan or not.

Not sure. She went in with dd2 a couple of weeks ago so I think she'll know what it's all about. Buy yes best for her to go first perhaps.

I hate to admit it but I don't take them in. I'm such a baby I make dh do it!

InkyStamp · 22/12/2010 19:53

Make him go first to show the baby how to be brave and strong. Admit that it hurts, otherwise he will think you lied to him and that is never a good position to be in!! "Ok, (breezy) you are going to have a needle. It WILL hurt, but just a little bit and only for a second. Then you can have a sweetie. Now lets show baby how brave you are"

Worked with mine!

But good luck!

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/12/2010 19:55

Its getting him to go to the doctors again that worries me more!

At that age, I don't mention until we are leaving for the jab.

TheParasiteofChristmasPast · 22/12/2010 19:58

i didn't mention it, i don't care if it makes life easier for the nurse i wasn't going to live with a gurning child for a week

InkyStamp · 22/12/2010 20:18

Tell him next time you are going to the doctors that there will be no needle this time?

lal123 · 22/12/2010 20:22

we didn't mention it to DD1 - I'll never forget her coming out of the doctors, tears streaming down her wee face saying "but WHY did they want to hurt me Mummy??" Wee pet

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/12/2010 20:24

:( Oh god lal123 that is horrible! Poor darling! :(

oh just say don't be daft it' a quick jab, then poke youself with a finger and it's over

the bigger deal you make about it, the bigger deal it will be to him

take a lollipop for him on the day and hand it to him at the same time as the jab.

it's only a quick jab

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/12/2010 20:31

2 quick jabs Wink

Oh no, now I feel bad about delaying DS' MMR - he's due to have it any day really as I keep putting it off (he's 2.2 now...) hmm perhaps delaying isn't any better! He gets so upset and I hate needles myself which doesn't help.

What and when do they have the preschool ones?

MissFit · 22/12/2010 20:41

I told DD she would be having 2 injections and it would sting a bit, but would be over with very quickly and then she could have some sweeties. Funnily enough she focused on the 'sweeties' bit and forgot about the rest Grin

The nurses were really good with DD - there were 2 and they asked me to put DD on my knee facing me with her head on my chest and they gave her both injections at the same time in the back of her arms. DD could see absolutely nothing (apart from my bosom), so it wasn't scary and she didn't even flinch or cry. It was over in seconds and then she demanded her 'sweeties' Grin

CommanderDrool · 22/12/2010 20:45

Give him an entire pack of choc buttons, open them just as first jag happens. Works a treat.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/12/2010 21:26

Good ideas MissFit and CommanderDrool! :)
BertieBottlesOfMulledWine pre school boosters are anytime from 3years 3 months to 4/5 years I believe. Do you mean your DS hasn't had the first MMR? If not the one your having will be the 2 injections and they are the preschool ones.
