blue eyes - at what age do I know they're here for good?

Dd1 was born with blue eyes that fairly quickly turned brown. Dd2s eyes are still blue. She'll be 11 weeks tomorrow. Could they still turn brown?

I'm sure she'll be beautiful with whatever eyes, but I'm just curious to imagine how, and who, she'll look like.

nope i don't think so. i saw it on tv the other day and i think they said something about 6 weeks... that's either when they stop changing colour or when they start... either way i think at 11 weeks she's going to be blue!!!

I'm pleased. dd1 is so like her Dad. It would be nice if dd2 looked at least a bit like me. I've got blue eys. dh is very dark and keeps on telling me that he's got the dominant genes!

haha well he is right... brown is dominant, but that doesn't stop the blue from coming through now and then
dp and i both have dark eyes but ds has bright blue!

My friends dd's eyes have just turned brown from blue. She is 12 months old. We were all very surprised as she now looks quite different. Still cute though!

My DS's eyes were almost black when he was newborn, I don't think they've stopped lightening up yet...they're doing it very gradually, he still has quiet dark blue eyes with little greeny brown circles in the middle... he's 18 months and I'm still noticing subtle differences!

Sorry but my ds had bright blue eyes when he was little and they gradually changed to hazel between maybe 12 to 18 months. Can't remember exactly but I do remember thinking it was really late.

His eyes look brown in some lights, green in others - not like mine (blue) or his Dad's (dark brown).

my dd1 had gorgeous blue eyes which is now grey green and seem to change depending on whatever clothing she is wearing. They have slowly changed over her three years.

found some bits online including:

Question: Will my baby's eyes stay this color?

Answer: Maybe, maybe not. Babies of African and Asian descent are usually born with brown eyes that stay brown. Caucasian babies are often born with steel gray or dark blue eyes; they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time they're 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes actually have more pigment than grey or blue eyes, even if they appear lighter in color.)

starlover · 29/09/2005 21:23

When a baby is first born, the eye still has not fully developed a dark pigment known as melanin that helps ?color? eyes and skin. Blue or gray eyes (which many Caucasian babies have at birth) in a newborn mean that melanin is virtually absent within the eye?s colored portion (iris).

When your baby is about six months old, you?ll have a better idea of eye color as pigmentation begins to form and brown or darker eyes might appear. The baby?s eye color should be determined by about age one, although some individuals may experience eye color changes through adulthood.

when both of my daughters were born they had black eyes well thats the colour they looked but now the blue 1 is 3 and 1 is 9mths they will change colour soon

My dd had blue eyes for months, which surprised us aw we both have brown eyes (she was also blond and virtually everyone in our family is dark haired). Her eyes changed gradually over time and now at five they are sort of hazel, pretty much like mine. They went through a grey stage on the way but seemed to settle when she was about four I think. ds's eyes were very dark brwon like his dad's but have now got lighter (with more tones rather than a solid brown). That seems to have happened over the last couple of years (he is 6 1/2). So I don't think that you should expect them to remain as they are at 11 weeks!

So, I've got to be patient and wait and see... I would love her to have blue eyes as it looks like she's getting black hair. My Mum had blue eyes and black hair. Everyone told me that she was very beautiful. I never knew my real mum, it would be nice to imagine that dd2 will be like her.
