dd is 2.5yrs and is in nappies, she knows when she is wet and tells me if she has done a number two.she is now getting used to sitting on a potty but will not stay on it for above five seconds.she claps and laughs when she does and i praise her.the only trouble is she won't do anything on it yet plus she doen't know whether ornot she likes the toilet or potty.

My just 2 y old is pretty similar. She will usually ask for the toilet or go on the potty for a poo if she wears no nappy (quite often as she strips off whenever possible)but has n't got the hang of wees - can stop it but not start voluntarily. Similarly will remove nappy if wet or dirty. However we have also yet to really make that transition so don't know what the answer is. With ds a bit of bribery and just going for it worked to a point but he was nearer 2 3/4.

Try letting her run around with no nappy on for an hour or so before bathtime and have a potty handy so you can catch any accidents if necesssary. I introduced DD to the potty and the toilet simultaneously which was great as I never had to do the whole potty in the street thing. TBH she decided she didn't want nappies anymore at about 18m and we haven't looked back.

marialuisa,

dd has no nappy on most of the time at home, however she doesn't wee that often ie. she took her nappy off in her cot so napped for over 2 hours without and had been bare for at least 1/2 hour before that. I do try to offer the potty before bath or bed when I remember. She just got a Tiny Tears doll for her bday so am hoping this will prompt further interest.

She also isn't fussed as to whether it is toilet or potty, although she is so small she cannot get on the toilet herself yet. Her brother would n't perch on the toilet without a seat for a long time but she has been fine so far.

dd doesn't like being out of nappies for long as she nearly always says`nappy please'.should i put one back on her or not?,then sometimes dd will say toilet please or potty please but when we get there won,t do anything.i think she thinks the whole thing is a big game.

MIne always hated pottys and I wasn't sad not to have to clear them out.

I once saw someone with one in a park!! I mean..........

Well codswallop... my dd (2yo) when she was potty trained was shopping with a potty for the first 2 days we went out (when I felt she could go without a nappy) as I didn't know if I would have enough time to find a toilet for a "freshly" potty trained toddler. So she weeded in her potty in a pedestrian street (in a corner) and I emptied it in the gutter.
