Activities for reception age

H,

My ds is 4 and started reception in Sept. He is a very tall for his age - size of an average 6 year old and even though he does sports/gym at school he is still full of energy when leaving school and struggles to sleep at night. I mostly take him to a park after school but in this weather I'm finding it too cold (he's not worried about his mum freezing!) so I'm looking to find a suitable indoor activity. We are waiting for a swimming place but that could be a few months away. Dance classes are widely available for girls but doesn't seem to be as much for boys. Everyone says he's built to be a rugby player but he's too young to start local clubs. Any ideas for boys in reception?

Have you asked at the rugby club? I think they have a kids rugby thing locally - here it's from 6 yrs but friends go to one with their 4yr and 2yr olds.

Have you got a Wii?

My active 4 yr old does Wii fit.
He still says he's not tired enough for bed.

Have you asked rugby clubs? We found one that takes 4 yr olds.

Does he need a 'place' for swimming, or can you just take him for fun?

Karate?

Gymnastics?

Look for Little Kickers football training. They go from 1.5 to 7yrs, girls and boys. Kids seem to love it.

My DSS did karate - which was great.

Playball

I am suspicious!

Is he really needing more stimulation after school? Could he be overtired rather than not tired enough? Often this translates as mad, hyper behaviour, running around etc (well does in this house!).

Do you walk to school? Bit annoying they don't do enough running around at school, prob stuck inside due to weather?
