Hi, I'm looking for some advice please on what sorts of solid food you give to your 10 /11 DC's.

My 10 month old DD still has the stage 2 jars, she doesn't like anything too lumpy and when I have given her lumpier stuff she starts coughing and I panic.

Basically, the problem lies with me as I am petrified of DD choking. I am reluctant to give her things like toast because I am so scared that she could choke. Does anyone else feel like this? I have done a Baby First Aid course which covered choking, but tbh it just made me worry even more.

It's started to bother me becasue I am worried that DD is not progessing with her weaning. My mum wants to give her a Christmas dinner on xmas day and I said No Way!! There's no way she could eat that.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Remember there is a big difference between choking and gagging. You are likely witnessing gagging with your little one which is perfectly normal - She needs to learn for herself how to put things into her mouth and will do that given the opportunity. It also shows that everything is working as it should be and is a handy safety feature of a baby :).

We've just started weaning our dd (6.5 months) a couple of weeks ago and she is having a combination of squished up food and finger food. The first couple of times giving her food she gagged A LOT. It was really difficult and scary to see BUT we could actually see her pushing the food back into her mouth and spitting it out. It was far more traumatic for us than for her. Now two weeks on the gagging is far less as she is starting to learn how far back and how much can be put in her mouth.

Anyhow, we are not anywhere near as far along with weaning as you are but here's what she had over the past couple of days (in addition to bottles!): 1) rice cereal with mashed banana, mashed sweet potatoe and potatoe, grilled chicken, brocoli & kiwi 2)scrambled eggs and toast fingers, mashed sweet potatoe & parsnip, stir fried beef & veggies (red pepper, baby corn, green onion) 3) Weetabix with stewed plum and yogurt, salmon & cream cheese on pitta. All the squishy stuff is fed to her by handing her a loaded spoon and then she jams it in the general direction of her mouth Grin, finger food type stuff is in strips that she knaws on and things like kiwi (also banana) we just remove some of the skin so it isn't too slippery to hold and she chews/slurps away at it. I can't be sure how much actually goes in but it is reappering in nappies AND her milk feeds are starting to reduce so some must be.

Maybe this is helpful?

PS. She will also be having some Christmas dinner...

Hi, My 11 month oldd DD is the opposit, she will not eat anything that we try and spoon feed her, only sometimes if we hand her the spoon.

She used to gag on finger food and she has occasionally choked and brought back sick- but this is a normal part of a baby learning how to eat. I don't give her whole grapes or raw carrot but she eats very much what we eat.

Her favorite thing is whole pasta, grated cheese and brocolli. She also eats sandwiches, fruit, pizza, curry, rice, stir fry, pork chops mash and vegetables (peas are great as finger food) toast, scrambled egg, macaroni cheese, shephards pie, fish pie, stew, soup, chicken casserole, lasagna, spag bol, frish fingers, cheese in the hole, just a few of her favorite thinks.

She does use a fork/spoon but I sometimes load it and she uses her fingers a lot. She also likes cake.

This probably doesn't help you, ask any questions if you like.

And I personaly wouldn't hesitate to give my DD the exact dinner we are having at Christmas, she loves stuffing and even a bit of sausage.
