Play pen for a 9mo?

Would you? Dd2 is 9mo and has discovered she can climb stairs, pull herself to standing on the sofa and get into the kitchen.

I cant relax at all now. Going to the loo, taking dd1 up to the loo and cooking is a nightmare now.

I am a bit Hmm about them but if it keeps dd safe I am willing to try one.

Do you think she is too old now to start? Are they cruel?

Hi mama,

ds is 9m and so far we have survived with out. I've made part of the lounge relitivly safe/enclosed and have high chair, sling and door bouncer I can put him in if I need to do something whereby I don't want to pop my head round the door every 2mins. My friend is a single mum and finds hers invaluble, as would I no doubt if i were in her position.

I think as lomg as they still get plenty of crawling/sofa cruising time it is fine though I generally try to just drag him along with me (sling and highchair best for this)

We got one for DS. He is now nearly 2 and I still use it. We do have a dog though, so nipping to the loo/answering the door etc was always a nightmare as obviously can't leave the dog and DS alone. It's not cruel, DS actually likes going in his (as long as Fireman Sam is on the telly).

NorthernLurker · 27/11/2010 07:03

Not cruel - we had one for dd1, a very active toddler and it was very helpful. As long as it has stuff in it for them to play with they don't notice they can't get too far. They aren't really small and it keeps them safe.

ds2 is in has as I write. I have found it a god send with a very mobile baby and a new house.

mistressploppy · 27/11/2010 09:39

Depends on the baby, DS loves his (13mo) as it's where his toys are! He only goes in there for up to 10min at a time, really, just so I can nip upstairs/to the loo etc. Can you borrow one and test it out?

ppeatfruit · 27/11/2010 09:52

No not cruel (cruel to leave a mobile baby in a room wihout supervision) IMO It obviously depends on yr parenting style though!!

IDontLikeDisciples · 27/11/2010 09:53

Get on definitly! Baby dans are good as you can fence of a large area of room with them

Have you got a travel cot? I just used that.

toddlerwrangler · 28/11/2010 22:25

Cot was a lifesaver for me. They have 0% common sense and 100% determination to explore, so playpens are a godsend in child unfriendly houses. Plus the bays help them to learn to pull themselves up!
