Wheely Bugs versus other Ride-Ons

Hi,

I'm trying to come up with a Christmas present suggestions for my parents to get something for my 9 month old.

I'd like him to have some sort of ride on as he has enjoyed them at soft play places. Just wondering whether a wheely bug is the best option or whether other people have found that their toddlers prefer other sorts of ride-ons. The wheely bug looks like a recipe for tumbles to me but perhaps I'm being over cautious. We've only had little 5 minute tries on things at soft play so its hard to judge what's best, and I don't want my parents to spend the money on something that turns out not to be much cop.

Any suggestions really welcome.

Thanks :),

Some children absolutely love wheely bugs but others don't! My DS never took to his at all but he loves playing on plastic ride ons at nursery and friends houses.

In hindsight, I wish I'd got him this ride on. Like a lot of toddlers (he's 2 now btw) he's developed a love of all things Thomas, and as well as being a ride on it's can be used as a push along toy and you can store little bits and pieces in the seat (which my DS would love).

Sorry, that probably doesn't help at all! Has he tried an actual wheely bug?

I'm not sure that he has actually - think he may have just tried the trikes and little red cars. Will sit him on one next time we go to soft play

Thanks for that recommendation. Like the look of that Thomas one. Our little one hasn't seen Thomas on the telly yet, but this looks like it would last a long time. Particularly as he's just on the edge of walking and could use the push along handle to start with.

Cheers,

I was at a baby and toddler fayre at the weekend and sat opposite a stall which was selling a few wheely toys - and every single toddler made a bee line for one like this every single one - it was quite funny! I wanted to get it for my DS, but can't really justify the expense now he's fully mobile.

they had a few of the wheely bugs, and a couple of ride on trucks too - but every child went for this one!

A small square seat car (like Thomas already linked to) would be more stable and a child could ride sooner. They have 3 wheel wheely bugs at one of my regular toddler groups, they are ok, I guess, but not the top favourites at all (things that resemble diggers and lorries are top faves). Wheely bugs are reasonably stable, I wouldn't worry about tumbles. I don't know how durable they are, though.

How about Mookie Scramble bug:

DS loves his! and it goes flat too

Sorry, will try again:

OP - the Thomas one does have a bit of longevity I think. I have a friend with twin boys who still play with them at age 3. My DS doesn't watch Thomas, but he's still obsessed with Thomas stuff (trains, books etc).

Also remembered this bobby car that someone recommended to me after we got the wheely bug. DS made a beeline for it at a friends house - it's pretty low and stable. You can also buy a trailer to go with it.
