DS hates going out...

DS is 14 weeks old and seems to hate going anywhere. I do realise he is only tiny, but it is getting rather wearing. DD (7) loved going out and about from a baby, slept like a log in her pushchair, and was very portable indeed.

He doesn't mind the car, in fact he quite likes it. The problems start when we get out.

He loathes the pushchair. Screams if he is in it for more than 10 minutes, and not in a tired-but-drops-off-eventually way, in a this-is-torture-get-me-out way. I tried getting a new parent-facing one but it is no better.

Sling - well, he doesn't like that much either. I have a Close carrier, a woven wrap, and a mei tai and he shrieks and arches his back and goes generally bananas if he is in any of them for more than about 15-20 minutes.

He also doesn't really like sleeping in my arms. The only ways he likes napping in the day are in the car, or being vigourously bounced in his bouncy chair.

I am starting to feel a little fed up of spending so much time sat at home. Food shopping is a nightmare, he screams whatever I do and I always end up forgetting the bread or something. Christmas shopping - well, forget it.

Any suggestions? Or is it just a matter of waiting for him to grow out of it?

Anyone?

Is there some other method of baby transport that he would enjoy? (Magic carpet maybe? Sedan chair?)

Does he sleep okay in his cot at night / for naps? My DD had reflux and could not relax in anything other than an automatic swing until our GP prescribed her Infant Gaviscon. She simply was too uncomfortable being in pram/my arms/squashed into a sling/in cot until then. We started giving her the medicine at 3 weeks and finally I could go out with her as she was able to settle in her buggy!

Well thats the thing. He sleeps fine at night - we are cosleeping, and he generally falls asleep about 9 and will go for 3/4 hours, then feeds every couple of hours til morning. But even though he wakes for feeds he doesn't cry, he just feeds then goes straight back to sleep.

He is actually a very happy baby - at home. Anywhere else, he just seems not to like Hmm

Thats exactly what my DD is like. Shes 10 weeks now and is getting slightly better but she hated her pram, hated her car seat and would also only go to sleep when bounced vigorously in her bouncy chair, the chair has actually broken and had to be replaced as im sure they aren't meant for that kind of bouncing Grin

All i can say is that she is now getting better at 10 weeks but i still feel slightly nervous about taking her out cause of all the bad experiences i had.

No real advice except to say that you really do have my sympathy!

Oh thank you Smile

DS' bouncy chair makes an ominous creaking now actually, after a combination of enormo-baby (nearly 17lb at 14 weeks) and vigorous bouncing.

We did have a mini-breakthrough yesterday afternoon. He fell asleep in the pushchair after only 10 minutes full-on howling Shock

We just had a bit of an episode on the way back from the weighing clinic although DD was hungry so i will forgive her for the howling. But i sat her up in the pram so she could see out and gave her a dummy and she seemed to really enjoy herself. Can you're DS be positioned like this or does it make no difference.
