Ds is almost 8 months now and I feel he is aware and receptive enough to be learning more. I also wish I knew a couple more just fun activities to do during his wake hours, since they are so much more often these days. I try to teach him sign language and we do walks and play time of course. He is always in the kitchen while I cook too, so I tell him all about the food and things. We read books as well, but I feel like most of our days are a bit redundant. Anyone have some good ideas?

Honestly? You are doing fine. Talking to him and eye contact are the main things. Nursery rhymes and action songs are perfect. He would love swimming with you.

Remember children learn through play. And at this age just about everything is play.

Could you find a singing group or something to take him to.?

GColdtimer · 22/11/2010 01:01

You sound like you are doing fine, my 9 month od loves singing so we sing all the time. She also likes making a noise so I give hr a couple of wooden spoons, a saucepan and Tupperware. Also, Have you heard of a treasure basket? Search on here for some tips or google but basically it's a basket full of normal everyday stuff for them to explore at will. But essentially it's all play.

Oh and go out, lots. A 10 minute walk in the push chair at a fractious time can really help. It might also be a good time to find some toddler groups. Have you got a local library? They sometimes have events for babies/toddlers. Have you taken him swimming? I know sometimes the days can seem a bit meaningless but they realy aren't. I try and have at least one out ofthe house activity planned a day, even if it's just going for coffee

Thank you! I really like the swimming idea:) That sounds like so much fun. Maybe some things at the library would be helpful too. I do try to get out quite a bit too, walking for grocery's and coffee and what not. He is a very happy little guy, maybe it is just me that is boredGrin!

Do you meet up with other mums or go to toddler groups? I wouldn't worry about the educational side at all - just have fun together and meet other mums/babes

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2010 14:47

exactly skybluepearl chill out becknico ,it's all life and yr DS is learning just by living (unless he's shut in a cupboard!)

You could make a wnaky basket for him. They are educational and will buy you almost enough time to drink a cup of tea.
