My dd1 has been invited to a party to see the new Harry Potter film. However the film is rated 12A. (she is 10)
What do you think and has anyone seen it?

In the same position, here. Watching this thread with interest.

herladyship · 20/11/2010 07:59

i went to see it last night, took ds (16) and dd (9)

it is pretty scary but absolutely brilliant!

dd is an avid fan, has read all the books (at least twice) seen all the other films and was desperate to go. glad i took her, she LOVED it Smile

i think if children have read and loved the books, and seen the other films then they will be fine with this one. but i wouldn't recommend it as an introduction to harry potter

SantasNutellaFairy · 20/11/2010 08:03

I saw it yesterday.

There is quite a bit of humour in there, but it is very dark with some scary bit(snake striking towards the camera for example)
There is some violence, but very little of the violence was not seen in the story.

There was some implied sex, but in a loving context.

I think it would depend on her maturity. If she is the sensitive sort then I would want to watch with her, if she's the more robust type then she will enjoy watching undressed Daniel RadcliffeWink

There were quite a few under 12's at last nights showing and they all seemed to enjoy it.

Has she seen any other Harry Potter films.

It's not something we can judgem without knowing your DD, because all 10 year olds are different. I've a friend who is taking her 6 year old today (and I'm never ever bring my 6 year old).

What sort of film does she like?

I would say though if she's seen the last film (Half-Blood Prince) she'll be fine - though if not I can't say

I didn't find it as dark or scary and previous films (but I'm 35 not 10!!)

I echo herladyship if it's her first experience of Harry Potter I wouldn't recommend it, scariness aside, there is the not knowing what is going on in the story part of it

TinselinaBumSquash · 20/11/2010 08:07

I wouldn't let a 10 yr old see it, it has quite a few bodies, murder, snakes, bloody wounds and mild swearing, implied....

OneLieIn · 20/11/2010 08:10

I went to see it last night with dd (9) and ds (8). Agree with all of the above, it was quite scary in places, but the y loved it and both have slept well since which is a good sign.

Personally I was more bothered by the trailers that used the word "bitch"

OneLieIn · 20/11/2010 08:12

And agree that you need to know the story, I had dd whispering in my ear the whole way through!

wannabeglam · 20/11/2010 09:35

Watch it on DVD when the time comes - less scary environment and you can talk him/her through scary bits?

Also, I wouldnt watch any of them until the books have been read - spoils a good read.

She has gone!

I will report back when I get her home tomorrow. She is a funny mix quite mature and also quite sensitive. She has read the Hobbit and half of Lord of the Rings so I reccon she should cope. (however she is not mad on the cinema as she doesn't like busy places) Shock
She may find the cinema experience worse than the film but I am glad that she has gone because she hasn't wanted to go to the cinema for ages.

I will be back......

Agree with other posters. Few scary bits (and I am 23 FFS Grin) that made me jump / need a chocolate piece.

One very racey bit, I was a bit Hmm to see that thrown in there...

fidelma · 22/11/2010 21:17

She managed fine.Even enjoyed the film. She found the whole big cinema thing a bit intense but film was appropriate for her.(her words!)
