Hi, have just found out we moving in about 4 weeks, my 3 and a half d.s knows we are moving, where to and has been there but he is quite a creature of habit so any tips on how to make the move easier for him? He has a new 4m sister so this has been a year of change for him, bless his cottons. We are going to take him to the new house a few times before the move and talk about his new bedroom/garden etc.

Hi there, we moved earlier this year and found letting my son help to pack his own room was encouraging for him.

We talked about how when we moved all the rooms would be empty and every single thing (especially toys!) would come with us. He also chose the room he wanted at the new house (Mine! Then eventually another...)

I got my sister to take them on the morning of the move and set some of their things up before they were brought to the house so the rooms seemed familiar, then let him choose where the remainder went.

Hopefully there's something there you'e not thought of already. Best of luck with it!

We moved 1 month ago with a 3and a half year old son, and a 2 year old DS. We made sure that we talked lots about the positive things about moving, the things that would be the same e.g. all toys and clothes and everything they liked and talked about the things that would be different e.g. more space to play, bigger garden but made sure that it was all positive.

We also let them pack some boxes (some got packed and unpacked many a time but it kept them occupied and enabled me to pack up too). The packing boxes were also used for bots, etc and drawing on (all entertainment and showed them that moving house was fun.

On the day they went to nursery and we made sure that we made up their room, filled the wardrobe, made their beds so it was all ready for them to have a restful nights sleep. There have been no problems since we moved at all. A few weeks before we had woken nights due to my oldest worrying about what it would be like but lots of cuddles and reassurance and he soon settled.

We also got out a few books from the library about moving house and that seemed to help. Hope that this helps.

Just remember to keep talking to your little one. They are very clever and when they know everything that is happening they seem happier adn seem to be able to cope with things better.

Hope that it goes well x

Book about moving house here. Surely worth a try.

I recently moved with toddlers, DS was nearly three. He was awful just before the move, he couldn't cope with the boxes and the house being half empty etc. Definitely think letting him help pack would've helped, but he did do quite a lot of unpacking sadly before we moved. With hindsight would've sent him to Granny's for the week before tbh.

We bought 'Big Ernie's New Home' off amazon, slightly american and wordy but helpful tips and DS did enjoy it. Can send it to you if you want we don't need it any more. BTW he was absolutely fine after the move, his friends have been down a couple of times since we moved and he has made a new friend already.
