Bedwetting 7 yr old - help!!!!

My DS is now 7 and most nights his bed is soaking when he wakes up in he morning. We have tried all sorts over the years, lifting, waking him up to go to the toilet, sticker/reward charts - all with very little success.

Have recently spoken to doctor who suggested bed wetting alarms (the ones that wake them up as they start to wee) but really don't like the idea of it.Also have been told that there is only a 50% chance that it will work! Hmm

He is such a heavy sleeper that he never wakes independently to go to the toilet. I do ask him to help me change his sheets in the morning but I don't tell him off - should I?Do I just need to accept that this is going to take a long while or is there anything else I can do?

Any advice, ideas, experiences greatly appreciated.

DSS (9)is a bedwetter. Nothing has made a difference in terms of sticker charts, getting him to change the bed and I've been reluctant to try an alarm as he shares a bedroom with both of his brothers.

DSS is generally dry in school holidays when he's less tired and he just wears pyjama pants in term time. They're not cheap but save me the hassle of changing the bed every day and probably dont work out much more expensive than the extra washing. Particularly having to take his duvet to the launderette or replacing it.

That's all I can offer at the moment. Was discussing with ex my that if it's no better after Christmas we might have to do some bedroom swapping for a few nights to give the alarm a go.

Please don't tell him off or punish him Sad? Being a heavy sleeper isn't something you can control, and he isn't conscious when he's asleep so how can he control his behaviour when he is? You wouldn't punish him for snoring, or having a bad dream would you?

A friend of mine had success with one of those wetting alarms, so I think you should consider it. Doctor should also be able to refer you to a continence nurse who may have ideas (I think 7 is the earliest they see children for bet-wetting).
