Bedtime routine 'gone to pot'!!

Hi, my 2 year old DS HAD a wonderful bedtime routine, he would have milk, a couple of books and get into his cot (now bed) and go off to sleep listening to his lullaby CD. He would get up at about 7am and go to bed at about 7pm, with a midday nap of anywhere between 1 - 2 hours. PERFECT. All of a sudden he doesn't want to go for a nap willingly (but does eventually go off to sleep) and when he is put to bed at night time (around 7-7.30) he gets up over and over again and runs between his bed, our bed and the top of the stairs where he will shout/cry etc. We take it in turns to go to him and attempt to put him into bed (ours or his) but he refuses to settle and spends about 1.5 hours letting us know he is still awake. Sometimes I give in and go and lie down with him on our bed until he falls asleep but this is a 'slippery slope' and we want him to be comfortable falling asleep in his bed again. I am wondering if maybe he needs to cut out his afternoon nap? But I don't want him to be tired late afternoon and fall asleep and then not go to bed. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Sounds very much like he's growing out of his daytime nap. DS started this at around 2 and for about 6 months I had to take him out in his buggy to get him to sleep.

If you can allow him up to 1 hour max for a nap and maybe push his bedtime forward by 30 mins this may work.

With mine it did take many months for him to grow out of his nap. He's just turned 3 and if he's at home all day there's no way he will sleep but he will still nod off if in his buggy or in the car for 20 mins which is just enough to refresh him for the rest of the day. He goes to bed 7.30 and wakes up at 6.30.

Good luck x

I agree with hefferlump. My DS dropped his day nap altogether at this age. And since then if he so much as closes his eyes for couple of minutes in the car, he will be a nightmare to put to bed.
