10 month old tantrums. Please help!

In the past fortnight or so my DD has started to have horrendous tantrums. They can be triggered by anything and are getting more frequent and longer.
She goes berserk when having her nappy changed, getting dressed etc despite distractions such as singing and toys.
Tonight I picked her up to have her dinner and we had a full on half hour of screaming, hitting, kicking etc. I walked around the house for ages trying to soothe her.
Has anyone got any tips, do I leave her to work it out of herself? I can't understand why it's happening. Sad

it is normal but how you handle it is imoportant if you want it to be minimised - firstly though is she perhaps poorly or teething? these can affect behaviour quite dramatically. if not, then my advice would be to make sure the tantrum is NOT successful - i.e. if she has a tantrum about getting dressed the outcome needs to be that you dress her anyway, rather than you delay it or do it in a different way (i.e. you need to 'win'). if the issue is dinner, i would take her down if she messes around, leave it for 10 minutes and try again. don't go to great lengths to soothe her if she is just being difficult but nothing is actually wrong. that said, as soon as she seems to relent or wish to co-operate, lots of praise and cuddles, as she is only very young.

Thank you, that is good advice about persevering. She has been quite constipated today so it was probably something to do with it. I am just a bit overawed at the force of the tantrum - where has my little baby gone?!

My DD is 7 months and was constipated last week. Her behaviour changed dramatically. I knew there was something wrong with her but until the straining and screaming started I had no idea what. :(

Now I have sorted that I have my 'lil lady back. :o

So just agreeing really that things like that can have a massive effect.

Thanks! Any tips to get rid of it? She has drunk a bit of apple juice but couldn't get much down her as it's the first time she has had juice.

TMI alert.

She started screaming and straining so I took her nappy off to investigate.
There was a solid greenish poo sticking out, it smelt horrendous.
I didn't know what to do and led her in a warm bath to try to soak it a bit, eventually she passed a bit and calmed down, fell asleep, she was exhausted. :(

Just telling you this so you can understand what I mean and decide if your DD has similar.

I came on here right away for advice and was advised to get some Glycerine suppositories from pharmacy.
They are little clear jelly things you just pop up the bum then a few minutes later, baby has a softer poo.

These worked okay but she still wasn't right, so I then got her some Lactulose, again, advised on here and from pharmacy - worked a treat. Only gave her 2 doses and poo started coming through the right colour again.

The reason for the blockage was I had 'upgraded' her onto the 6 month plus milk, which I have done with previous 3 kids with no problems. This milk has extra iron in it which is likely the cause for the constipation.
I changed her back to stage 1 milk and since then her poo has been yellow and normal again, no problems and not needed any more Lactulose to get her moving.

Until I realised she was constipated, she was very cranky, unhappy and would throw herself about a bit and rebel against things - which was shocking at 7 months!
Now she is back to normal.

I also couldn't get her to drink anything juice wise.

She is not interested in weaning yet either so feeding her fruit was a no-go aswell.

Thank you. I will go and see the chemist tomorrow as we have also had a green poo incident this afternoon. I had to push her legs to help it out!
She hasn't changed her milk but I can't get her to drink enough water with her meals which I think is the reason.
Hopefully things will ease up with a bit of help Grin
