Should I be worried?

I have a lovely, confident 23m DS. In all areas he is just like his peers, a bit more advanced in some areas, not quite there in others. When I look in my toddler books, or online, he seems to be slightly advanced. He is happy, smiley and shows nothing out of the ordinary in any other way but this--

He has become pretty obsessed with lego men and specifically taking their hats on and off. This has been going on for a month or so now. It is the first thing he says in the morning and the last thing at night. The lego man and his hat go everywhere with him. Hat on, hat off, hat on , hat off. If we are doing another activity, lego man is either clutched in his hand, or is permitted to sit on the table and watch what we are doing.

he plays with other toys, loves to build things, do puzzles, reads books, colours, etc etc. He is just really on one about this lego man. If the lego man has no hat, then he is devastated and a new hat must be found asap.

Is this OK, should I be worried? Am I bonkers?

It sounds quite sweet Smile

I have a 3yo who has been fairly obsessive about a few things - currently it's his backpack which has to go everywhere, in the car seat, on the toilet, in bed...you get the picture.

They have a funny way of processing some things and my guess is this will pass, but I wouldn't worry.

Not don't be worried AT ALL. Boys and Lego are meant to be together, both my sons love the little men too, in fact I had to get one last night as ds2 aged 3 would not go to sleep until one was on his ship next to his bed and anything for a bit of peace! Don't pay too much attention to it, it's just his thing and demonstrated excellent fine motor skills!

smallwhitecat thanks for that, I have 2 nephews with aspergers and of course I do not view their needs and quirks negatively; they are lovely lovely individuals, but I guess I am sensitive to this sort of behaviour.

My Husband says it is just a phase and he will get bored of it soon.

Yes he does have very good fine motor skills! And his ability to concentrate is good, he will sit and read/colour/model for 20minutes +

Thanks everyone for their input, I guess I am just being a bit sensitive.
