Does my baby like to suffocate herself...?

Recently, both my husband and I have noticed our DD (23 weeks) likes to pull things over her face and stop breathing! Things like blankets, comforters, toys etc. It's not just a case of things being in the way, she actively looks for things to put on her face and either doesn't breathe or does very quick, short, shallow breaths.
Obviously we're not leaving her alone at all and always take the item off her but we are worries and wonder if anybody has ever come across this before.
Going to mention it to the HV in a couple of days when we next get weights, but any help would be gratefully appreciated.

My dd used to have to have her blanket over her face, if I moved it away, she pulled it back again even in her sleep. She's still like it now at 17 months. Mention it to your hv but I would think she just likes it nothing more.

my 6mo loves having something over her face, she has a cuddly rat that she takes everywhere and if she gets upset we just pop the rat over her face and calmness is restored.

I wouldn't worry, just keep an eye on her.

My ds1 has had a 'blankie' since birth which he always covered his face with. I'd move it but it'd be back there in the morning.

He still does it now at 19months.

As others have said, just keep an eye on her.

My 3.5 month old DD does this with things_ her taggie blanket, a muslin, her bib etc. Especially does it at night when she rubs a bunny blanket over her face and then falls asleep with it literally flat over her face. I always remove it but now she can turn over and find it in the night so it's back there in the morning. Worries me slightly but seems to be of real comfort to her and I don't think it's heavy enough to suffocate her...unless someone can advise me otherwise?

Hollybolly my 4 month old does this! As if I'm not suffering from pfb syndrome as it is. Bibs, taggie, mussy- agh!
I don't know what to do other than not allow them in the cot.

They're just doing it to cut down on stimulation (they can't always work out how to close their eye, bless them) and it makes them feel safe. My 21mo still does it with his snuggly.

My dd did this all the time!! She seemed to do the not breating/holding breath/short breath thing exactly the same as your dd.

Happy to report it must have just been a phase as she is one next week and hasn't done it for at least the last 6wks!

I think it's just a new feeling they are experimenting with.

Just wait until she realises if she puts her hands down her throat she can make herself gag Hmm

HTH

My DS did (and still does) this so I made him a crocheted blankie with a really loose stitch so there were no suffication issues.

He is 2.5 now and still likes his blankie although I don't find him with hit over his face quite as often these days.
