That's it really - would you ever, have you ever and what came of it? Why did you do it?

My nephew who was considered very bright and advanced a year at school is a white van man now. Luckily my sister didn't boast too much about his intellectual prowess or she would have egg on her face now.
Seems to me parents who decide to have their child's IQ tested are actually hoping they have a genius on their hands.
DS2 had his tested as part of an ASD assessment and came out as average or slightly above, despite sounding as though he had swallowed a dictionary!

I'mahappycamper...nothing wrong with a white van man. Dh was one before going to uni at age 45 to study Geology. If you read all the posts you would see that there are lots of reasons why parents have their child's iq tested. Frankly, I think that most parents know perfectly well how bright their children are before having them tested and simply use the test as a tool to get the help and services their child needs. My ds' IQ test came with a 3 page report on how to best teach him in class given his learning differences. On the psych ed's recommendation, I never even gave the number portion of the test to the school.

No I agree- my nephew is actually quite happy- but having a high IQ hasn't led to a high flying career.
