When do babies start to interact with other babies?

My DS is 6mths old and doesn't seem to show any interest in other babies whatsoever (well, he might look at them if they make a loud noise, but that's it!). I gather this is normal at this age, but I am keen to know at what age I should expect him to start to play/interact with his peers. When did your DCs start playing with others? Does it make a difference if they are an only child (as DS is) rather than having siblings?

Er, my DD is 2.4 yrs and I'd say she's only recently been actually playing together with other children. Previously we could go to a playgroup and she'd quite happily play the whole time by herself (and I think this is quite normal). She is currently an only child (for 6 more months anyway!). She did definitely notice other children much much younger, but not play with them, or even interact that much.

Starts a little at 2 years maybe? My little one has started being very interactive now and she is 2 years 4 months. She loves her friends!

I'll second 2.5 years.
They may play alongside each other earlier than that - but not really interact.

My son was at 16 weeks "holding hands" with a peer - although I think it was more luck than deliberate groping as they were thumping each other in the face too. Hmm There's lots of staring goes on between the two of them - you know, like The Birds or something - but nothing deliberate yet I think.
