I have been reading this thread with great interest, as i type one handed as i have my ds wriggling in my lap because he just wont settle. I had an elective c-section just about 8 weeks ago and havent had a great time healing afterwards
After contracting MRSA, cystitis, etc Ive been a huge amount of antibiotics. currently breast feeding I have been concerened that this has been efffecting My DS. Has anyone else had this experience at all? My midwife and supportive family have all been superb, although a lot of the time i think they think its all in my head. I have a 5yr DD who has been brilliant and she too was a difficult baby but we've put that down to a tied tongue and always being hungry. When My DS is awake all He does is cry. Its as though He hates being awake!? I dont seem to know what he wants and I've lost our bond that was so strong at the beggining...I do understand thats its early days but I am starting to despair :( It's my last day of taking the medication today. fingers crossed,It'll all settle down. Could anyone put my mind at rest....will this pass?

What are you taking? Is it only since you started the antibiotics that he has been fussy?

I bfed dd for 3yrs. I had 3 courses of antibiotics in that time. Many are perfectly safe while bfing but there is the chance that they can give them an upset tummy.

You name it! Ive had it! well it certainly seems that way. I'm on the last dose of Erythromycin which has been particulary nasty, nausea etc. It neally floored me the first time I took it, but had to persist due to MRSA! I am convinced He's become like this since the problems have started. In hospital he was an absolute dream and the breast feeding went very well. He took his first ever bottle about 4 days ago to allow me to get some sleep and this also went well. He slept well and it seemedto make the whole situation bearable! I'm lucky to have a very supportive network so really hope this will pass and we'll get back to normal very soon.

It sounds like you've had a really difficult time and I'm sorry for that. Congratulations on his birth though. And it's brilliant that you have a support network.

I suppose the test of whether the antibiotics affect his gut is stopping them. More info here on erythromycin in bmilk.

He could also be having a growth spurt, colic, reflux etc etc. But I hope he settles down soon and it was just a mild upset due to the antibiotics.

Are you better?

Yes I am thankyou. Its certainly been a strange few weeks! and to top it all I twisted my ankle really badly while en route to pick up DD from school while carring DS in a sling, day before my birthday! he was fine but my ankle wasnt! A quick trip to A&E sorted it out although still painful now! honestly, You couldnt write it! such bad luck, but I'm trying to stay positive. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. :)

Oh you do sound more positive already. Perhaps your run of bad luck means you've got 6yrs of good health ahead of you!

I started a thread on here when dd was 7 weeks. It was a tough time. Even without the extra stuff on top of it.

Ask for as much help as you need, take it as easy as 2 children will permit and I hope it all improves really quickly. Smile
