advice on tackling 4 yo's racist comment

My 4 YO son (who is white on the rare occasions he has a clean face) came home from nursery and announced "I don't like XXX because she has a brown face." Was v shocked but struggled to know what to say beyond "that's a bit silly, like saying I don't like you because you've got grey eyes." Should I do or say anything else? He has gone through a sexist phase too "don't drive the car mummy, you're a girl and girls don't drive" which was funny rather than offensive. Instinctively I feel I should just leave it rather than draw more attention to it. Does anyone have similar experiences? Should I mention it to the nursery staff. He is actually a nice little boy most of the time!

I think you need to look at how you word things before tackling your son tbh.

don't over react.
My DD said at 5 that she didn't like Charlotte because she had curly hair. She didn't like Emma because she has guinea pigs.

It isn't a big racist thing. Don't blow it out of all proprtion.

When DD said stuff like that I just used to chat with great enthusiasm about all the different shapes and colours and types and sizes that humans come in.

Calling a 4 year old sexist or racist is a massive over reaction to their growing understanding of the world around them.

The only likelinhood of it being racist or sexist is if a significant adult ( like a parent or carer) is actively expressing these views.

let it go

It's horrible isn't it, when they come out with such gems! I remember my DS saying that the female medic lego figure must be a nurse because "ladies are nurses and men are doctors". Took him by surprise when we went to the GP and "she" was very good with him! I wouldn't worry too much.
